During the WBO Global event at the Grand Ho Tram, another historic event took place.  Vietnam Boxing Organization signed a cooperation agreement with Korea Boxing Federation (KBF).  The agreement focuses around the technology transfer of professional boxing management system developed by VBO.  

Chairman Lee of KBF said "History of professional boxing in Korea is over 80 years but VBO from Vietnam has managed to develop a system that is far better than what is being used in Korea. I have never seen such an advanced system for boxing like the one developed by VBO."  

The system developed by VBO streamlines documentation process required in supervising a fight by more than 98%, saving countless hours by a commission using the system.  What usually takes days to prepare can be done in less than an hour.

NOTE:  Unlike in Vietnam, most of the countries around the world allows private organizations to use "Federation", "Association", or "Commission" in their names.  KBF is a private organization as are most professional boxing commissions around the world.

VSP PRO has unearthed lots of hot prospects this year, and three of those that have shone will get their first taste of international competition tomorrow.

Phan Minh Quân, Le Hoàng Hiệp and Lê Tiến Dat all made weight today, and have significant bouts in South Korea on Sunday.

These two punched themselves to a standstill.

Tran Thi Kim Chi definitely showed that she is a top prospect, but Quảng Ngãi dynamo edged the rounds last night with punch volume and accuracy to score her second win as a professional. Unanimous decision.

Quality fight.

Improving novice Thai Hoàng Huy went on the attack in round two, after trailing 10-8 in the early scorecards.

Huy was unfortunate in round one, after appearing to slip just prior to receiving a glancing blow, and was deducted two points for the knockdown.

But the former muay thai fighter quickly made up for it, landing a peach of an uppercut on Tran Ngọc Phuong Hieu to end the battle in stunning fashion.

Despite his inexperience as a boxer, Thai Hoang Huy has improved markedly since he debuted, and moves to 4-1 as a professional.

Excellent bout between two fighters making their debut - Team Manny boxer LÊ NGỌC MINH KHÔI and Khang Anh Martial Arts Club PHẠM LÊ GIA HUY.This was an excellent bout where both boxers adhered to basics, maintaining a decent punch volume throughout.Huy was the much taller boxer, and used his range well to outpoint his opponent, who often tried to broach distance with a high guard but lacking the fast head movement and jab. The Khang Anh boxer impressed the judges, and lots more wins seem assured.LÊ NGỌC MINH KHÔI was an excellent debut, but certainly had issues with the height and range of his opponent. He looks like a drop to 48-50kg class will suit him far better, and expect to see him winning with more experience under his belt.

It was a super impressive debut by southpaw Pham Van Thành to win the main undercard bout.

The super bantamweight contest was high level, and opponent Truong Ngo Gia Huy showed nice skills and movement throughout.

But it was the more consistent touches and ring control that won the judges, and the Binh Duong boxer Pham Van Tan scored the first of what is surely many wins to come.

This was the main event, and it was a cracking contest between two very promising featherweights.

Without doubt -  the best fight of the night !

ĐỖ VĂN THIỆN NGÂN and ĐOÀN HOÀI NHỚ went non-stop, sharing plenty of great moments in a fight that rightfully could have gone either way.

The judges nod was a split decision win to the Ca Mau boxing team fighter ĐOÀN HOÀI NHỚ.

18 year old Quảng Ngãi prospect Duyên returns for VSP PRO 8 for a featherweight 57kg bout against Can Tho team's TRẦN THI KIM CHI.

Duyen is a former youth and club champion gold medal winner, and debuted in March at VSP PRO with a classy victory over Hoang Thuy Linh. She looked very restrained in that performance, and expect to see something special from Duyên this coming Saturday.

She is certainly one of the future stars for women's boxing in Vietnam.

Vietnam will be the focal point of the best in boxing this November when VICTORY8 makes it's long awaited return.

This country is landlocked and nestled in the middle of the continent, and whilst famous for it's diamonds, it will surely become renowned soon for another commodity.

Breaking news is that Vietnam will get it's first look at an African fighter this November, with Botwana #1  Moabi Ngaka confirmed to make the trip for VICTORY8.

Ngaka had a great amateur career with over 70 fights, and has already scored 2 wins as a pro. It is expected that the champion Ngaka will compete in a 6 round bout at VICTORY8 as preparation for a huge match to be held in Botswana at the end of the year. It is likely that the African boxer will take on the Philippines hurtful puncher Mark John Yap as the main event.

The Botswana contingent will also do a media conference in Hanoi detailing their big plans for their star's title match in December, and Yap will face off with his African foe in Vietnam to market the event.

Watch this space, as we will have more information on Vietnam and World Team selections in the coming weeks.

Mindanao mauler Mark John Yap has been offered the opportunity to add another title to his collection at very short notice, and has enlisted some family help before he heads to Manila. A 3x OPBF champion at 118lb in Japan, Yap is set to make an audacious bid to win the WBC Asia Lightweight title (at 135lb !) in Bangkok at the end of this month. Despite the very short time to prepare, his brother has stepped in to fast track his training for the impending WBC event. But brother Alberto Yap jr is no stranger to the sport of hard knocks  ! The  CDO local is a former amateur star, having even won the Philippines national youth title in a past life  ! Mark John Yap has really proved to be a renaissance man in recent times, and despite having to compete above his normal weight class this month, he is expected to be a huge chance to secure more silverware for the Philippines ! Vietnam's biggest boxing franchise VICTORY8 is trying to secure the iconic Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi for a huge event this November.

The format showcases Vietnam's best fighters pitched against stars from around the world.

The last time VICTORY8 was held, it attracted 25,000 people to the mystical turtle lake location.

The event attracted more than 50 million views on local television and on-line platforms.

Những võ sĩ nằm trong danh sách dự ASIAD 19 đều là những cái tên tốt nhất của boxing Nam Việt Nam thời điểm hiện tại. Bùi Phước Tùng là chủ nhân của tấm HCV SEA Games 32, Nguyễn Văn Đương và Nguyễn Minh Cường đều giành được huy chương trong chuyến tập huấn và thi đấu tại Uzbekistan, Nguyễn Mạnh Cường cũng cho thấy sự tiến bộ sau quãng thời gian tập luyện rất căng thẳng.

So sánh với các quốc gia khác trong khu vực, Philippines đang có 764 võ sĩ (753 nam, 11 nữ) trên 103 triệu dân. Thái Lan sở hữu 781 võ sĩ (634 nam, 147 nữ) trên 67 triệu dân. Số lượng võ sĩ của Việt Nam hiện mới xếp trên các quốc gia không nổi trội về Boxing chuyên nghiệp trong khu vực như Indonesia (91 võ sĩ), Singapore (16 võ sĩ), Malaysia (11 võ sĩ),...

Boxing Việt Nam bắt đầu trở lại từ những năm đầu thập niên 2002 kể từ sau lệnh cấm từ năm tại giải Vô địch Quốc gia 1994 ở Hải Phòng. Kể từ đó tới nay, chúng ta đã chứng kiến những bước tiến đáng kể ở đấu trường nghiệp dư: HCV SEA Games 2011, 2015, 2021 và 2023; HCĐ Asiad 2014, 2018; có ứng viên giành vé chính thức dự Olympic Tokyo 2020 gọi tên Nguyễn Thị Tâm - Nguyễn Văn Đương.

Dù vậy, Boxing chuyên nghiệp lại là câu chuyện khác khi đây là thị trường cần sự tham gia của các công ty tư nhân, hay còn được biết tới với tên gọi hình thức xã hội hóa.

Những nhà vô địch châu lục và thế giới có thể là hình mẫu để các công ty quảng bá đánh dấu hoạt động của mình tại thị trường Việt Nam. Tuy nhiên, câu chuyện "đào rộng trước khi đào sâu" vẫn là thách thức mà tất cả đang cùng phải giải quyết, bởi một nền Boxing chuyên nghiệp không thể chỉ dựa vào tên tuổi của những nhà vô địch ít ỏi.

Theo thống kê của BoxRec, từ năm 2015 tới nay, 27 sự kiện Boxing chuyên nghiệp đã được tổ chức tại Việt Nam, chỉ bằng với số sự kiện được tổ chức tại Philippines từ tháng 7/2015 tới nay. Có lẽ, đây cũng chính là câu trả lời cho việc tại sao số lượng các võ sĩ chuyên nghiệp Việt Nam ít đến như vậy.

Hãy thử quan sát theo hai hướng sau: Nếu một công ty quảng bá muốn gây sự chú ý, họ sẽ cần những sự kiện lớn, với các trận tranh đai. Tuy nhiên, một sự kiện như vậy chỉ có thể cho phép tối đa 10-15 trận đấu. Liệu những võ sĩ mới bắt đầu thi đấu chuyên nghiệp có được lựa chọn xuất hiện tại đây?

Nếu tổ chức một sự kiện nhỏ, tạo cơ hội cho các võ sĩ mới xây dựng bảng thành tích, xuất hiện trên BoxRec với những trận đấu đầu tiên. Sự kiện đó sẽ không đủ sức hút với khán giả cũng như tạo tiếng vang trong cộng đồng.

Chúng ta không thể trách khán giả chỉ chú ý tới những sự kiện lớn như Victory 8, Fortunes of War, LEAD có sự xuất hiện của những võ sĩ nổi tiếng, nhưng điều đó chỉ đáp ứng được bề nổi của bài toán phát triển, mà không giải quyết được vấn đề cơ bản: số lượng võ sĩ.

Bài toán số lượng võ sĩ bắt đầu được tính đến giai đoạn cuối năm 2022, khi VSP Promotions giới thiệu chuỗi sự kiện chuyên nghiệp VSP Pro, liên tục đem đến những màn ra mắt của các võ sĩ chuyên nghiệp. Mục tiêu của VSP Pro không gì khác ngoài tạo dựng bảng thành tích cho các võ sĩ chưa tên tuổi, cho phép họ làm quen với sàn đấu chuyên nghiệp. Các trận đấu của họ được công nhận bởi những tổ chức WBO, IBF, WBC, cùng với các tổ chức Boxing tư nhân của Nhật Bản, Hàn Quốc hay Philippines.

Tương tự, LEAD Boxing sau hai sự kiện đầu tiên, cũng cho thấy sự xuất hiện của những cái tên chưa hề có tiếng tăm trong giới Boxing Việt Nam. Thành tích của họ bắt đầu được ghi nhận bởi các tổ chức như WBC, WBA.

Việc các công ty quảng bá bắt đầu dành nguồn đầu tư của mình cho các "tân binh", đã phần nào cho thấy bài toán số lượng của Boxing chuyên nghiệp Việt Nam đang được tìm cách giải quyết. Chúng ta cần nhiều sự kiện, nhiều cơ hội cho những võ sĩ mới, hơn là chỉ tập trung vào các trận đấu lớn chỉ để thu hút sự chú ý.

But a late withdrawal of the opponent of Binh Duong team's Truong Hai Bien this Saturday created an immediate chance to fight that Dũng simply could not refuse.

And as they say, fortune favours the brave !

Dũng debuted at just one week's notice against one of Saigon's most promising boxers - former  youth champ Phan Minh Quân. He returned last month in vastly improved shape, but met an equally improved rival in Tran Tan Quang Dao.

The Hanoi boxer showed great sturdiness under pressure, because Dao arguably put on the best boxing performance of the night.

Courtesy of his improvement, the match up between Nguyễn Khắc Dũng and southpaw Truong Hai Bien shapes as one of the most interesting this Saturday night.

Bien is on debut, but has an extensive kickboxing and muay thai background, and the reports from Binh Duong are that he will be well suited to the professional boxing arena.

This fight has been elevated to the main undercard, and be in no doubt that these two hard headed warriors will do it justice !

Mystery surrounds the re-appearance of 19 year old prospect Truong Ngo Gia Huy, who will headline this Saturday night at VSP PRO 7.

Huy has been boxing since he was 8 years old, and showed lots of ability at an early age. His training was rewarded with a National Youth title victory in 2020, but since then, he has gone missing from the Vietnam fight scene.

But it was from seeing friends competing at VSP PRO that ignited his passion to fight once more :

"Le Tien Dat is one of my friends from boxing in the amateurs, and I am very excited to see him perform so well in the pro boxing. He is really impressive. It gives me a lot of motivation to do well. Now it's my turn to shine !"

Huy is prepared by the Ho Ch Minh Boxing Club and has a difficult task on debut. He faces experienced resuming boxer, former city champion Nguyễn Luong Cong Khai.

Matrix gym hopeful Tran Ngoc Thiện is back in action this Saturday, after making a solid debut performance here in February.

The 21 year old boxer picked up bronze at the national sports festival last year, and the success motivated Thiện to work harder on his skills. The work paid off, and he boxed a smart fight to oust Nguyễn Qui Thịnh in an Unanimous decision.

This Saturday, Thien faces up to Ho Chi Minh City Boxing Club representative Nguyễn Tân Thành, who is an unknown quantity. Thành will be making his pro debut, but it is well known that fighters from this gym are always in great shape.

But the confidence coming from Matrix is big, and they are warning everyone to expect a vastly improved Tran Ngọc Thiện this Saturday night.

Ho Chi Minh Boxing Club prodigy Ngoan returns to VSP Gym this Saturday night with ambitions to add to her classy debut win in the professional ranks.

A bronze medal winner at the national championships, Ngoan was impressive beating the feisty Huynh Ngoc Yen Phuong back in June of this year.

But the task for Ngoan won't be an easy one !

She faces Hanoi Boxing Academy prospect Le Thu Hoai in what will be a high temp 70kg clash.

Hoai started in boxing in 2019, and has already achieved a silver medal in the club tournament 2022, a bronze medal in the youth tournament 2022, and a bronze medal in the club tournament 2023.

And she is only 17 years of age.

Big potential these two girls.

The Hanoi Hitman Nguyễn Văn Hải has looked unstoppable in 2023, and he isn't finished just yet !

His most recent performance at the Grand Ho Tram was simply devastating, scoring a first punch knockout of the unbeaten 6-0 Abdul Mottalib.

His run of good form has attracted the attention of South Korean promoters, who want to test the Vietnam boxer against their own this coming October.

Nguyễn Văn Hải previously visited South Korea in 2018, when he impressively won an exhibition event in Seoul.

"The Korean boxers are always in great condition and are very brave. They have a big heart. It is an honour to fight them".

VSP Gym plays host to the popular VSP PRO series again later this month - a format which has already launched the professional careers of more than 50 Vietnam prospects. And counting !

VSP Gym is the best gym in Ho Chi Minh City, and it caters to all those that enjoy working out and making new friends in this great sport.

The VSP PRO provides a pathway for Vietnam boxers to improve their skills and competitive levels, with the potential for them to compete overseas.

We will be sending three VSP PRO boxers to South Korea in October, and will have news to share on this soon.

Tuyển Boxing Nam Việt Nam kết thúc chuyến tập huấn và thi đấu kéo dài 1 tháng tại Uzbekistan. Trong chuyến tập huấn, cả đội đã tham gia thi đấu giải giao hữu giữa các nước cùng tập luyện tại Uzbekistan. Nguyễn Minh Cường và Nguyễn Văn Đương lần lượt giành 1 HCB và 1 HCĐ về cho Boxing Việt Nam.

Sau khi kết thúc chuyến tập huấn này, các thành viên đội tuyển Boxing Nam Việt Nam tiếp tục chuẩn bị lên đường thi đấu giải Đài Loan mở rộng vào ngày 17/8. Giải đấu sẽ diễn ra trong 5 ngày. Sau khi kết thúc giải đấu, toàn đội sẽ tiếp tục ở lại tập luyện và trở về nước vào thời điểm cuối tháng 8.

Vietnam has no shortage of great female fight talent, and VSP PRO is giving fans a glimpse of some of the girls that love the sport of boxing.

Le Ngoc Anh (left) was a very impressive winner at a recent event, and she was joined on Saturday night by the inimitable Le Thi Bang.

Bang is arguably the best boxer that Vietnam has produced (of either gender) in recent years, and it was a thrill to see her lending her support to the competing boxers at VSP PRO 6.
