NEWS FROM WEBTHETHAO
Professional boxing events in Vietnam began to rekindle in the period of 2015, when management units such as Vietnam Boxing Federation (VBF) or Ho Chi Minh City Boxing Federation. Ho Chi Minh City (HBF) organizes this form of competition, with the participation of famous boxers in the domestic amateur boxing village. After that, promotion companies began to appear with names like VSP Promotions, Cocky Buffalo, Saigon Sports Club, VBC, Trigger Boxing... continued to appear to bring more national elements. economic: events, title matches, friendlies.
However, it was not until 2018, when the promoters really embarked on a comprehensive approach, at this time, the challenge for the development of professional boxing began to really appear.
To be recognized at the professional level, competitions must be under the supervision of organizations capable of recognizing professional achievements around the world. This supervision is based on the rules - the rules of the game (regulations) are specified in the operating regulations of professional organizations such as WBC, WBO, WBA, IBF...
In Vietnam, the presence of these organizations is not much. Therefore, boxers have only one option: to conduct tours in countries with developed boxing backgrounds such as Thailand, the Philippines, Japan, Korea, ... to be recognized for their achievements. However, the issue of funding, training procedures - competing with Vietnamese boxers is not a simple problem, despite the participation of experienced promotion companies in the region.
As a result, promoters have opted for a more pragmatic approach: organizing events right in Vietnam. To do this, they need to contact to get the approval of professional organizations in the world, through sending professional teams, supervising the organization and competition of martial arts.
Since 2019, units like VSP Promotions have made their mark with a series of events such as Victory 8, VSP Pro,... bringing Vietnamese boxers to participate in professional matches at home, recognizing their achievements. in the international system, gradually removing barriers for boxers who want to pursue this path.
From professional events, title fights began to appear. Victory 8: Legend of Hoan Kiem with the title of WBA East Asia; events of IBF, WBO at The Grand Ho Tram Strip with champions Dinh Hong Quan, Song Chan Ho... and here comes Fortunes of War with 3 matches for WBO - IBF title in weight classes on 10th December.
Not only for boxers, bringing international events to Vietnam also creates opportunities for domestic professionals, namely management units, referees, supervisors, etc. exposure to professional environment according to world standards. From there, events in Vietnam will gradually move to international level - something we all want in the development of all sports.
Following the success of two title events in April and July, Fortunes of War witnessed the title defense of the IBF Asian champion - "Black Hawk" Dinh Hong Quan in his 11th fight. The fighter born in 1998 will face the boxer from the Philippines - "Silent Assassin" Arnel Baconaje.
In addition to the defense of the IBF Asian lightweight title between Dinh Hong Quan and Arnel Baconjae, Charly Suarez - a three-time SEA Games gold medalist and silver medalist at ASIAD 2014 will welcome an opponent from Indonesia - Defry Palulu for the IBF title. Asian super-featherweight.
Previously, WBO Oriental champion from Korea - Song Chan Ho will face Thai boxer Anusong Thonglueang in his title defense match. The competition took place over 10 rounds in the super-lightweight division.
In addition to the three matches/defending of the IBF and WBO belts, Fortunes Of War also witnessed the return of Vietnamese boxing monument Nguyen Van Hai, promising fighters Le Hoang Hiep, Thai Hoang Huy or Pham Minh Quan before the competition. boxers from Indonesia and the Philippines.

FORTUNES OF WAR - MEET OUR FIGHTERS
Mark John Yap v Phan Minh Quân - Fight 4
PHAN MINH QUAN Debut
23 yrs old / Orthodox / The Riddler / 170cm / 59kg Super Featherweight
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam / Matrix Boxing HCMC
The Riddler is the most accomplished of three aspiring Vietnam boxers in the exhibition bouts.
That said, he faces the most daunting opponent – 3 times OPBF champion Mark John Yap,
Quan was a youth champion in HCMC, and has continued his boxing training with the hope of becoming a professional competitor later on. He has won at Inter Club level, and he definitely possesses the look of a boxer that can make it to the pros. He is also a good size for a super featherweight, and he still retains some nice amateur touches in his arsenal.
Phan Minh Quan has a real reputation of asking the hard questions of his opponents, and some, well they just seem near impossible to answer.
Hence – The Riddler !
MARK JOHN YAP 31 wins
33 yrs old / Orthodox / The Journey Man / 168cm / 59kg Super Featherweight
Cagayan de Oro, Philippines / VSP Elorde Manila
Mark John Yap is one of the Philippines premier boxers, and arguably one of their best internationally performed in recent times. In the five years prior to the pandemic, Yap literally tore some of Japan’s best fighters to shreds, and picked up three OPBF titles in the process. He has recorded 31 wins as a professional. Amazing considering the caliber of opposition that he has confronted during his incredible career.
This is a vastly experienced boxing star who most recently overcame Papua New Guinea champion Junior Raka in dominating fashion, and will be using this exhibition bout the keep his weapons sharp for a likely bout in Manila in January.
Don’t be surprised to see the Journey Man back in Vietnam in 2023 for a big fight.
Of course, he has to get past Phan Minh Quan first!
The Philippines team head to Vietnam tonight in advance of the mammoth boxing event in Ho Tram next Saturday.
The pinoy squad is very likely the best to ever leave Philippines' shores, and where two of the team's fighters will challenge for IBF titles in the main events.
Assembled tonight at Ninoy Aquino Airport are :
Delfin Boholst (trainer), Thony Suarez (trainer), Charly Suarez, Arnel Baconaje, JonJon Estrada Pederito Laurente (trainer), Jetro Pabustan and Mark John Yap.

MEET OUR FORTUNES OF WAR FIGHTERS !
FIGHT 2: Jetro Pabustan v Le Hoang Hiep
LE HOANG HIEP Debut
22 yrs old / Orthodox / Young Blood / 162cm / 55kg Super Bantamweight
Nam Dinh, Vietnam / Matrix Boxing HCMC
Young Blood, Thug Life, Saigon Psycho, Street Vigga - Russian born Hiep goes by many names, but they all point to a central truth. This young Viet is equal parts crazy brave and crazy mad ! But he can fight too !
Competing with grown men in amateur tournaments when just a teen, Le Hoang Hiep showed loads of potential, but unfortunately the pandemic and the closure of all Vietnam gyms halted that potential growth. Temporarily at least !
VSP put out advertisements looking for young Viet prospects looking to gain experience against visiting pros, and Hiep was one of the very first to respond. Despite being only a true 51kg Flyweight, Hiep begged for the Bantamweight clash with Philippines Jetro Pabustan.
“Get me that bitch Pabustan, he will be mine”!. And so the job was awarded to Hiep !
Prior to the pandemic, Le Hoang Hiep showed that he has the makings of a good pro.
He boasts plenty of speed and power, and he also showed good timing in high level amateur bouts that he contested. And the guy is super tough.!
If there was to be a query on Hiep in this bout, it would be to do with his jump of three weight classes and his ability to maintain workrate against the heavier Philippines boxer. Pabustan.is well known for his fitness, and as Hiep only commenced training recently, 4 rounds will seem an eternity against the bigger Jetro Pabustan.
JETRO PABUSTAN 31 wins
32 yrs old / Southpaw / Silent Operator / 168cm / 55kg Super Bantamweight
Malapatan, Sarangani, Philippines / VSP Elorde Manila
Jetro Pabustan is one of the most experienced fighters appearing at the Fortunes of War in Ho Tram. The clever southpaw is known as the Silent Operator, and when you watch him at work, it’s no surprise that this technician has racked up 31 wins in his career so far. With a professional resume dating back to 2008, Pabustan suffered only one defeat in his first 29 bouts, an amazing feat considering he was fighting everyone!
The Silent Operator hails from Malapatan , Sarangani, but has fought for most of his career based in Cagayan de Oro. A talented southpaw from the start, his style has always been steeped in good fundamentals – touch jabs, deft counters, and point scoring against opponents that get a bit ragged. This template saw him get to a WBO world bantamweight title in 2016, one that he unfortunately lost to the legendary Thai Panya Uthok by technical decision. Ironically, this title was later avenged by another quality pinoy named Marlon Tapales. The very next year, Jetro Pabustan ventured to Japan to claim the WBO Asia Pacific title, accounting for the highly rated Tatsuya Takahashi. When it appeared that his career was in another upswing, the talented CDO fighter seemingly vanished from the landscape, fighting only three times in the next 3 years.
The Silent Operator resumed in May to beat the outstanding and dangerous Bryan Tamayo in Manila. He followed that effort with a last moment trip to the United States to take on the world top 20 fighter Tramaine Williams. Whilst being on the receiving end of a narrow loss, many that watched this fight were convinced that Pabustan had done enough to get his hand raised.
Jetro Pabustan will look to erase that disappointment and make an emphatic statement here in Vietnam.
MEET OUR FORTUNES OF WAR FIGHTERS !
FIGHT 1 Thai Hoang Huy v JonJon Estrada
THAI HOANG HUY Debut
26 yrs old / Orthodox / Nak Su / 170cm / 57kg Featherweight
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam / Maxkado Gym HCMC
When talking about the fabled Vietnamese Tiger fighting spirit, they surely must have based the narrative around Thai Hoang Huy !
This former HCMC Muay Thai champion fell in love with boxing only in recent times, and will make his debut against an absolute killer named JonJon Estrada - a man who has created absolute carnage in just about every fight he contests.
Estrada has scored 15 wins as a professional and owns THE BEST knockout stats in the featherweight division - 14 of his victims have been put to sleep !
And Thai Hoang Huy has NEVER even competed in a boxing match !
His ring name is Nak Su, which naturally enough, means WARRIOR. .
So what are the upsides for this apparently “out of his depth” upstart Nak Su ?
Huy is big and strong, and has a hardened body and resolve from his years of Muay Thai. He is also very agile and athletic, and he likely holds a speed advantage over the Philippines’ Estrada.
Thai Hoang Huy is very aware of his assignment.against Estrada, and has studied the aggressive crouching style of his opponent, and the angles at which he leverages his biggest and most hurtful punches. He is confident that he has the game plan to subdue the destructive Wolverine., and he is looking forward to the challenge.
Huy is clearly the least experienced of these Vietnam debutants, and he has the most dangerous task, but if he can avoid knockout, then he certainly has the athletic prowess to have good moments in this match. It will clearly create huge interest to see how a Muay Thai champion fares with an absolute knockout artist in the boxing arena.
JONJON ESTRADA 15 wins
33 yrs old / Orthodox / Wolverine / 165cm / 57kg Featherweight
San Andres, Quezon, Philippines / VSP Elorde Gym Manila
JonJon Estrada is surely the Philippines’ most popular and iconic fighter!
The Wolverine JonJon Estrada is unleashed again this December, taking his superhero persona and hammer like fists to The Grand Ho Tram.
Estrada, known as "the Wolverine", has achieved cult status courtesy of his "don't die wondering" fighting style.
JonJon Estrada has perfected a low, stalking attack that has opponents constantly retreating, often to a violent demise. His record of 14 knockouts from his 15 wins paints a stark picture, as does his ominous bludgeoning of those that go toe to toe. The Wolverine had a blistering 2021, winning his last three bouts with stoppages that would get most men arrested ! And he carried that menace into 2022. And now it is Vietnam's turn !
Australian trainer Tony Del Vecchio sung the praises of JonJon Estrada recently :
" I love the pinoy style, they are always very physical, combative and exciting. They turn up to entertain, and to hurt. I have seen some big hitters in the Philippines, but I swear, this guy JonJon Estrada is the scariest puncher I have seen ! Man, the guy has a serious chin too, I saw him fight Suarez, and what can I say, I'm a big fan!"
The Wolverine is as complicated as he is simple. To defeat him, you need to avoid being knocked out. Sounds simple enough !
Charly Suarez will be heading to Vietnam this Friday for his first international test since turning professional. The King's Warrior will be going up against Indonesia’s best fighter Defry Palulu - a boxer with a 25-2 record and a former WBC regional belt holder.
Palulu has been in great form since boxing resumed, winning four bouts since a pandemic enforced break. His team is confident that this awkward southpaw has recaptured his best and will be the first fighter to drop the Philippines champion Suarez.
Did we say SOUTHPAW ? Ugggh !
Never ones to falter on the side of preparation, Team Suarez have been working in sparring with many of the Philippines best southpaws.
And on that subject, they don't come much better than RoyRoy D'HAMMER Sumugat, who did some excellent preparation work with Charly Suarez last week.
Good luck champs !

Indonesia’s #1 Defry Palulu is in career best shape, and has been working on angles and power shots to halt the meteoric rise of Philippines #1 Charly Suarez.
It is widely acknowledged that getting a points decision against Suarez is not possible, and the Palulu team are planning to take the result out of the judges hands.
"The Unseen Hammer" has reportedly been engaged in grueling sessions in preparation for Suarez, and while Palulu team are predicting a knockout, they will be fully prepared to go 12 punishing rounds if required.
The video shows Defry Palulu at the end of 8 rounds on pads without rest ( 24 minutes continuously) You will also note, that even fatigued, his southpaw punch angles are awkward, and his power relentless.

Saigon street cred meets the boxing ring !
Le Hoang Hiep aka thug life aka young blood returns to boxing FINALLY after a pandemic enforced holiday.
This kid was only a teenager beating up on grown men before Vietnam closed down in 2020, and when he heard Jetro Pabustan was coming in December, he begged for the assignment.
"But Hiep, Pabustan is an internationally performed and dangerous professional. He's won 31 fights, won regional titles, and even fought in a WBO World Championship. And to make things worse, he's two or three weight classes up above you !"
Young Blood responded :
"I don't care who it is.
Tell that mtfk I just wanna punch on ! Young Blood will fight anyone if the dollars are there!"

It was a creditable performance, yet short of the Hanoi hard man's best work, and you can be asdured we will see a vastly improved fighter next month in Ho Tram.
"My fight in Manila was fun, but it taught me important lessons. Indonesia’s man is a very good young boxer, so this time, I must play it very hard to try for victory. Very excited!" commented the Hanoi Hitman.

Professionally, being trained with an expert boxer helps me to learn, practice and improve my abilities to prepare well for the upcoming matches. I won’t let people down.”

For those who aren't familiar with the name, you are sure to hear a lot more!
This is a boxer who has settled his first 4 fights with dramatic Knockouts !
Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao has delivered a stunning endorsement of Sydney fighter George Kambosos jnr ahead of his world title defence against American Devin Haney, declaring: “Nobody could have done what George has done.”
Kambosos, 28, will attempt to become the first boxer to hold all four belts in the lightweight division when he fights Haney at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on June 5.
George Kambosos Jr has pledged to send American boxer Devin Haney home with no spoils from their epic bout
There is mounting speculation that Pacquiao, who did more than 250 rounds of sparring with Kambosos during his career, will be among the 50,000-strong crowd for the fight.
In a rare interview, the 12-time world champion told the Good Weekend Kambosos looked incredibly sharp in preparation and will win world titles for as long as he wants.
“I look at the training videos he has been posting on his various social platforms and I’m amazed at what he’s doing in the gym,” Pacquiao said. “No-one is in better condition. You can tell he wants to keep those belts for as long as possible.
“It’s been a long journey for George, and he has sacrificed a lot to get to the top — I do not see him letting that go. How many world titles can he win? He’s only limited by his imagination and his ambition. So far, George has accomplished everything he has set his mind to.”
The relationship between Pacquiao and Kambosos first blossomed when the little-known fighter from Sylvania was sparring at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles in early 2017.
Roach thought he would be an ideal sparring partner for Pacquiao for his fight against Brisbane schoolteacher Jeff Horn at Suncorp Stadium; a fight Horn won in a stunning upset.
Kambosos helped Pacquiao prepare for two more world title fights, including training camps in Manila and running the hills around General Santos, where Pacquiao grew up on the street before boxing became his salvation.
“From the beginning I knew, and my team knew, George was a very good fighter,” Pacquiao explained. “That is why I wanted George in all my training camps. It went beyond giving me good work. He made me work. He was a sparring partner in name only. You could sense he had big ambitions in boxing. He wanted to be the best and he treated his sparring sessions with me as part of his education. I never saw the same fighter twice. He was more than a sparring partner. He was a training partner.”
Often, on long road runs, Kambosos and Pacquiao would draw away from the rest of the pack.
“George worked harder than anyone in the camp,” Pacquiao said. “I think that is why we got along so well. He would be right there with me running the hills every morning, doing sit-ups next to me after the run, full workouts in the gym every afternoon. He was always doing the extra work. He never cut corners on himself, and it was that work ethic that showed me he had the drive to do what so few in boxing can, and that is to become a world champion.”
It was that single-mindedness that propelled Kambosos to his own upset victory over Teofimo Lopez in New York last November, a result which delivered him the IBF, WBA and WBO world titles. Haney holds the WBC title.
As Kambosos explains to the Good Weekend on Saturday, he was prepared “to die” in the ring against Lopez given how much was on the line for his family and his career. Instead, the 13-1 underdog won via a split points decision.
"The fight he took to Teofimo Lopez … I do not think anyone else could have done what George did that night,” Pacquiao said. “He showed in the Lopez fight that not only can he give out punishment, but he can also take it, and that comes from working hard every day in training and staying fit in between fights. George has so many strengths, physically and mentally. He is not predictable. He sees the whole ring and uses it to his advantage. He keeps everything together. He is very disciplined.”
Despite holding three world title belts, and the victory over Lopez, Kambosos remains a clear outsider ($2.51) with bookmakers against Haney ($1.56). Kambosos said he was determined to make sure his first title defence in Australia was against a quality opponent.
“I could’ve fought a no-name,” Kambosos said. “Made $3 million to $4 million. Look at me, my first big defence in Australia lasts two rounds. Sorry fans … I can’t do that. I’m the top dog in the division but the underdog in this fight. It’s exactly where I want to be.”
Arnel Baconaje and JonJon Estrada will head to Japan to punch holes in former WBO world title holder Tomoki Kameda.
The Japanese fighter has been relatively quiet during the pandemic, but resumes on July 30 to take on quality Dominican William Encarcion.
Kameda boasts an impressive 38 and 3 record, and interestingly, his only loss in recent years was to the unbeaten Rey Vargas, the very same Mexican that is soon to face Mark Magsayo!
Opportunities to work with foreign fighters are always great ways to build skills, but one also has to spare a thought for the rugged Kameda. It surely will be no picnic trading leather with the Wolverine and the Silencer.
Double Trouble!
SEA Games silver medallist and Victory8 World Team member Gretel De Paz will make her return to the ring in Brisbane next month.
De Paz will take on rising Aussie star Taylah Robertson, who is a former esteemed amateur. The clash represents a rise in weight class for the Philippines fighter, but she definitely possesses the heavier hands, and she is likely to give Robertson plenty to contend with.
The Suarez team spotted earlier today, plotting and planning the year ahead.
Charly Suarez went to 10 and 0 and top seventy in the world, when he recently captured the WBA Asia title in Manila.
The King's Warrior was to defend that title in Dubai this June, only to have the match postponed, in part, due to boxers trying to avoid the Philippines star!
OK plans change!
Suarez team stay busy, so he will have a regular bout in June, and follow that up with a title defense locally or abroad 6 weeks later.
VSP Promotions will stage an iconic event in Vietnam in December, and plans are already in place to secure Suarez a world rated opponent for the HCMC outdoor show. It is expected that many thousands of people will watch the King's Warrior, and some other pinoy stars, fight at the extravaganza.
DOMINATION UKC is already underway, with many of Manila's best amateurs doing their thing before the professional card later today.
Ranny Quizo and the Wolverine JonJon Estrada are big fight fans when they aren't in the ring themselves, and arrived early to get a good seat.
If you are in Manila, make sure to get down to the Elorde Flash Grand Ballroom in Paranaque and catch all the action live. It will be a great day.
We will also stream the fights here later today.
Gary Tamayo ranks as one of the Philippines best prospects, and Danny Tampipi surely is one of the more tricky. Both southpaw, both measure the distance well and know how to land shots.
Gary "the Hawk " Tamayo sits at 6 wins and a loss, and could just as easily be unbeaten.
Boy Tirador aka Freaky Tampipi, dropped star boxer Pete Apolinar, and also endured six rounds with the very bad intentioned Arnel Baconaje. That's great form for this !
Expect Tamayo brilliance mixed with power, and Danny Tampipi out to totally clip the Hawk's wings. Nice fight!

Two of the very best and most experienced fighters in the Philippines will be featuring at Domination UKC tomorrow.
Richard Pumicpic resumes from a short lay off, after an accidental head clash forced his most recent foray to be deemed a "no contest ". The man known as "the Beast "has already notched up an incredible 22 wins, many of those against top class international boxers. Pumicpic, it's also accurate to say, is probably the Philippines most "robbed" fighter on the road!
Edison Berwela has been out of the ring since early 2020, so it's great to see this top performer finally back in action.
Berwela has an excellent record of 18 wins, and his recent defeats were all narrow points losses for international belts. The best of Edison Berwela will be seen perhaps now at featherweight, so both he and Pumicpic will be using tomorrow's lightweight 4 round clash as a stepping stone to their respective divisions.
Expect to see some really skillful work (albeit a little rusty!) from Richard Pumicpic and Edison Berwela in Paranaque City tomorrow. Both boys are main event fighters when at their peak, so it's fantastic to see them doing their thing tomorrow.

The Ultimate Knockout Challenge "Domination " is only days away, but when you are making your debut, that can seem an eternity !
Elorde prospect Clarence Breboneria is one of a quality group having their first pro bout this Saturday, when he takes on Dennis Irenio in what should be a cracking 130lb bout. Breboneria is definitely one to keep your eye on, as he has more than held his own sparring far more experienced fighters in his preparation.
In contrast, team mate JL Laurente is a virtual "old hand", having won his first three matches. His most recent appearance resulted in a draw with the vastly improved Jufel Salina, and a repeat of that form will see him very hard to beat this Saturday.

In a great and often see-sawing battle over 8 rounds, Linn Sandstrom gained a majority decision over a gritty Floryvic Montero.
In a match where both girls displayed good touches, it was perhaps the accuracy of Sandstrom that laid the platform for the win.
Philippines Montero looked excellent in patches, and no doubt contended with some ring rust, but showed she will be a vastly improved fighter at her next appearance.
Philippines Floryvic Montero and Sweden's Linn Sandstrom just made weight for tomorrow night's clash in Newcastle Australia.
Multi discipline fighter Montero was slightly the heavier, but both girls looked in great shape and are sure to create fireworks when the bell goes.
Sandstrom is now based in Australia, and was a recent visitor to Manila in March, where she fought on the undercard of the Charly Suarez v Tomjune Mangubat WBA title event.
This was a classic match up, held at the iconic Hoan Kiem Lake in the Vietnam capital of Hanoi.
This fight attracted a crowd of 25,000 people, and a television audience of millions.
Expect to see another big Victory8 event make its long awaited return in HCMC later this year.
Recent Philippines visitor Linn "Sandstorm" Sandstrom returns to the ring in Newcastle, Australia next Wednesday night.
Linn takes on the very versatile pinay Floryvic Montero.
Sandstrom has made no secret of the fact that she is a relative newcomer to boxing, and is playing catch up to learn as much as she can in short time. The Swedish boxer has 4 wins on her resume, and the clash with Philippines Montero, should prove to be a great contest and valuable ring time for both girls.
And to think, Linn Sandstrom started out as a table tennis player !
The Games and Amusement Board recognized Philippines best boxer Charly Suarez, naming him their " Boxer of the month" in their recently released March ratings.
"Charly Suarez stuns Tomjune Mangubat with a 12 round TKO and bags the WBA Asia Super Featherweight title at the Elorde Sports complex in Paranaque City, March 12th, under VSP Promotions. "
Congratulations to the King's Warrior and wishing you continued success in your exciting career ahead. You work extremely hard to make the impossible look easy, and you put a smile on the faces of Philippines fight fans. Bravo !!
Philippines young gun Delmar Pellio will arrive in Vietnam tomorrow, two days in advance of Saturday's big boxing event to be held in Ho Tram in the south of Vietnam.
Pellio is set to lock horns with promising Vietnam fighter Dinh Hong Quan in a battle for the IBF Asia Lightweight title. And as the picture neatly shows, this pinoy warrior is primed for battle!
Delmar Pellio enters the contest with 9 wins and one loss.
Dinh Hong Quan owns a strong performance card of his own, winning 7 of his 8 bouts to date.
Delmar Pellio will rise to 135 pounds for his Vietnam assignment, and it will be interesting to see how well he adapts to a less frenetic but heavier punching weight class. Based on his size and fight style, expect the strong pinoy southpaw to really shine as a Lightweight !
That said, expect nothing less than a baptism of fire when pitted against a fiercely proud Vietnamese boxer, they are absolute killers!
Dinh Hong Quan is very much cut from that same cloth, and like Pellio, is a promising young boxer on the rise.
These two fighters have very similar levels of strength, skills and durability, so expect this fight to be non stop action and head to the judges scorecards.

The King's Warrior Charly Suarez at this morning's training session in Manila, and already looking in pristine condition.
Suarez returned to the city last week from his home in Davao, and will now begin work in earnest for his upcoming assignment.

News breaking soon.

Manila super lightweight Argie "Bomba" Toquero is back in action Saturday April 23rd when he takes on Abdurasul Ismoilov for the vacant WBO Oriental title.
The return marks a more than two year absence for the injury plagued southpaw, who's most recent effort was in beating Jimmy Borbon way back in February of 2020. Timing and power are the assets of the strongly built Toquero, who has scored 10 stoppages in his 13 wins.
Uzbekistan's Abdurasul Ismoilov is a formidable opponent, and is when based in Vietnam, he regularly spars at the VSP Gym in HCMC.
Whilst better known at lightweight, Ismoilov is a really technical southpaw, who has the ability to seamlessly shift stance. A winner of 9 of his 10 bouts, and robbed in his losing bout, it's hard not to be impressed with the skills of the Uzbekistan fighter. He is always well balanced, and similar to Toquero, he boasts plenty of firepower.
This is a high quality match up, and we will bring it to you live from the Ho Tram Casino resort on Saturday April 23.
RoyRoy Sumugat and the "Bomba" Toquero looking the goods after a torrid spar in Manila earlier today !
Top lightweight prospect Delmar Pellio is ready to return to the ring on Saturday April 23 when he ventures to Vietnam. The match against Dinh Hong Quan (7 - 1)
will be held at the Ho Tram Casino, which sits directly in front of the beach, maybe 150km south of HCMC.
Pellio has shown huge potential in his career thus far, and despite being unbeaten in 9 fights, he struggled to get regular and meaningful opponents. He faced a considerable rise in grade last December when he faced the world class Charly Suarez, yet produced an outstanding and courageous effort that won the hearts of fans. The King's Warrior Suarez was quick to praise his young opponent, and enthused that he had a good future in the sport. Similarly, those that have sparred with the southpaw Pellio have found his workrate, timing, strength and boxing brain very hard to beat.
There is no doubt the bout with Suarez was a great learning curve for Delmar Pellio, and he will need all of that knowledge when he takes on Vietnam warrior Dinh Hong Quan.
Lorenz Ladrada is one of the many talented Mindanao fighters to compete in Manila in recent events.
The participation of visitor fighters to Luzon, amidst the difficulties the Elorde team encountered to even create events during lockdown, definitely deserves special mention.
At TIGER 2O22, Tomjune Mangubat, Charly Suarez, and Ronnie Baldonado formed three parts of the two headline fights - all Mindanao boys.
Lorenz "Cerberus" Ladrada is a proud son of the mountains, hailing from Malitbog Bukidnon, so it is fantastic to see his family and friends get behind his journey, and even receive a salutation from the mayor.
Well done to Lorenz Ladrada and all the fighters that have managed to keep the faith and stay competitive in these hard times.
This super lightweight prospect trained at the Olivetti Gym started 2022 in great fashion, edging the dangerous Roberto Gonzales in a sequel fight.
The victory pushed the career tally of Rodrigo to 7 wins, with 5 by stoppage, and this young fighter appears to possess plenty of upside.
Expect to see the "Silent Beast " to continue to make big noise in the boxing ring in future assignments.
Recent Philippines visitor Linn Sandstrom made her pro "exhibition " debut in HCMC in late 2018.
This was very much "swimming with sharks" for Linn, who was matched with Vietnam national champion and SEA Games gold winner Nguyen Thi Tam. When this fight took place, Linn had been learning boxing for only 1.5 years!
Don't let it be said that Linn Sandstrom doesn't love a decent challenge!
In 2018, we were guessing they could, but we didn't really know for sure!
So we invited 5 Korean pros to Vietnam to test them out.
4 wins and 3 knockouts later, we got our answer !
Yes, they are pretty damn good!!
This Vietnam killer is Nguyen Van Duong. His Korean opponent already had 5 pro wins.
It was meant to be an exhibition where the pros teach the amateurs.
Who wants to see Duong in Manila this July make a pro debut?
More importantly, who wants to fight him?
Linn Sandstrom scored a third round stoppage in Costa Rica against Cristel Ruiz.
Despite being significantly outweighed, Sandstrom had the bigger work rate and tge more accurate power shots, to finish her Nicaraguan opponent.
Linn Sandstrom improves to 4 wins, and will be back in action in Australia in May.
Philippines Flyweight champion Ben "the Sniper" Ligas made amends for a scoring travesty in Cebu, with a classy title defense over Roland Jay Biendima.
The 112 division is stacked with talent right now, and there has been a lot of talk about who's next to challenge for Ligas' national crown.
But rumours are strong that the Philippines champion will be testing himself against international opposition at his next fight, an initiative that surely will see him an even more formidable foe for locals to deal with.
This will be a big news story breaking soon for sure.
Watch this space!
Linn "the Sandstorm" Sandstrom will be competing for the third fight in a month tomorrow night, when she steps into the ring in the central American country of Costa Rica.
Sandstrom will compete on an all female card, headed by Costa Rican world champ Yokasta Valle.
The Swedish girl who is based in Australia, is looking to get as much international experience as possible to build her technical base, and has threatened she may even return to fight in the Philippines !
Linn Sandstrom is learning on the road, and will fight in Costa Rica on the undercard of world champ Yoka Valle's title defense.
"I’m fighting on @yokavalle_oficial undercard in Costa Rica, 25th of March, where she will defend her IBF World Title. It’s an honour to be a part on this ALL FEMALE Boxing Card over here in Costa Rica, in celebration of Womens Month together with some incredible girls on the card. Yoka is like the female version of Canelo, so I’m counting on a sold out venue and unreal atmosphere… I will be fighting a opponent from Nicaragua and this will be my 3rd professional fight in 22 days…" reported Sandstrom earlier today.
Linn has competed in Victory8 in Vietnam, and more recently, fought in Manila at TIGER 2022 UKC on the undercard of Charly Suarez v Tomjune Mangubat.
Recently crowned WBC world champ Mark Magsayo and MPP boss Sean Gibbons know plenty about boxing. But there's also plenty to learn, and who is their "go to" person when they need answers ?
None other than Mam Cucuy Elorde, who is always happy to help when they need a hand!
Magsayo and Gibbons fly back to the states tomorrow, to begin preparations for the unbeaten Rey Vargas in July.
Vargas is a vastly different proposition to Gary Russell Jr, who is a short southpaw.
The Mexican is a 5ft11 orthodox, and has won all 35 bouts (22 KO).
In spite of the daunting record, this style of opponent should suit Magsayo perfectly.
What's next for this modern day action hero?
Who will be the next victim when the Wolverine goes beserk ??
Jonjon Estrada 15 WINS 14 KNOCKOUTS
"Nature made me a freak.
Man made me a weapon.
And God made it last too long".
Mindanao's Aisah "D'Striker" Alico returned from a long lay off, and a jump in weight class, only to put on a great showing at TIGER 2O22 last week.
Alico matched up with visiting fighter Linn Sandstrom, and the pair were a welcome attraction at a big day of quality bouts.
Recent Philippines invader Linn Sandstrom had her first sparring session in Mexico yesterday. The Aussie based fighter is motivated to fast track her learning there, due to the abundance of great quality female athletes.
Sandstrom is looking to keep busy and fight upon her return to Australia, and says she will keep her options open after that.
Jestine "the Aceman" Tesoro and Palawan's Lorence Rosas contested perhaps the closest match of the day at TIGER 2O22 UKC, and it was a tribute to both fighters to keep it a chess match till the final bell.
Southpaw Rosas began the bout extremely well, and was a convincing round one winner. His angles and head movement gave Tesoro big problems again in round two, but late in the round, clever adjustments by the Aceman made it anybody's round. It was clear by the third, that 22 year old Tesoro had solved the Rosas puzzle, and they were big winning rounds for the young fighter.
So now Rosas was the one having problems, trying to manage the height and reach advantage of his rival. But round five, the Pride of Palawan showed his ring acumen, landing some great shots to charge back into the contest.
The final round was up for grabs, and whilst both boxers got a little ragged, it's fair to say Tesoro did a sufficient job to stick and move to pinch the contest.
This was a really interesting bout, and a great result for a fast improving Tesoro. Lorence Rosas has skills and experience, and can be an awkward fight for anybody. Just ask Mike Plania !
Really good signs here for Lorence Rosas, and for the Aceman, looking forward to seeing what he can produce in coming fights.
Big congrats to the "'King's Warrior" Charly Suarez for his iconic performance against Cebu star Tomjune Mangubat in the main event fight at TIGER 2O22.
The bout had the added prestige of a regional title, and the win by Suarez elevates him in the world rankings with the potential for bigger fights to come.
THANK YOU WBA ASIA - COOL BELT !!
One of the best fights you will see all year!
Ronnie Baldonado puts on a truly TIGER performance, giving the Wonder Boy his biggest career challenge so far.
The prize?
A WBA Asia belt and a world ranking. This fight was hellfire (as predicted !) and Martin showed huge composure, determination, and fitness to redress the first half of the fight.
The performance of Baldonado was phenomenal, and he will be a big star for Philippines boxing.
Can't wait to see what's next for Carl Jammes Martin ! Very impressive !
Jason Buenaobra returned to the winners list with an outstanding win against a rampaging Remon Basas at TIGER 2O22 Ultimate Knockout Challenge in Paranaque.
This match proved to be one of the best of the day, pitting Buenaobra southpaw skills and footwork against Basas relentless pressure and workrate.
These two fighters had a common previous foe in top Mindanao fighter Lorenz Ladrada,
and it was really pleasing to see the improvements that they had made since those battles. Basas looked relentlessly bullish and dangerous, and displayed enhanced foot speed in the bout.
This was a fine performance by Jason Buenaobra, he worked nicely off a backfoot jab, made clever angles, and mitigated the advances of Bad Bad Basas with classy point scoring touches.
Sweden's Linn Sandstrom and Mindanao's Aisah Alico put on a great show for the fans at TIGER 2O22. For Sandstrom, it was a valuable learning fight, and for the more experienced Alico, a chance to get much needed ring time after a pandemic enforced absence. Kudos to local girl Alico, whilst short on fitness, the Swedish fighter said that she hit a lot harder than any previous opponent !
We wish the Aussie based "Sandstorm" lots of luck in her future fights, and love to see her back again in the Philippines if she is passing by.
Charly Suarez puts on a masterful performance to win the WBA Asia title against outstanding prospect Tomjune Mangubat.
The win positions the Philippines best boxer now at 10 and 0, and he rockets into the world rankings.
So what's next?
WATCH THIS SPACE !
The very dapper and debonair Jaime Villanera Jr making sure visiting boxer Linn Sandstrom and team member Jada don't get lost in Manila.
When not auditioning for James Bond, Jaime doubles as a ring MC, and he earned his keep with a mega day at TIGER 2O22 Ultimate Knockout Challenge on Saturday in Paranaque.
Linn Sandstrom had a successful visit, with a round 5 win over resuming Mindanao girl Aisah Alico.
Jada made herself useful also, showing her versatility as a ring card girl for the main WBA Asia bout between Charly Suarez and Tomjune Mangubat.
Well done team!
The "Wonder Boy" Carl Jammes Martin about to commence his ring walk for his WBA Asia assignment with Ronnie Baldonado.
The young boxing prodigy and recent Probellum signing, advanced to 19 and 0 (16 KO) with his gritty title win.
The fight between Baldonado and Martin was a classic, with Martin overcoming an early setback, only to work back into the contest and regain ascendency later in the bout.
Big kudos to Ronnie Baldonado, he was outstanding, and he made this another memorable bout for Wonder Boy and the fans.
Charly Suarez enjoying the after glow of a super day of fights at the TIGER 2O22 Ultimate Knockout Challenge yesterday in Paranaque.
The King's Warrior played his part, winning an iconic and exciting WBA Asia title contest with freak Cebu warrior Tomjune Mangubat. It was a world class performance by the two combatants, and one that will have the world's best ducking the Philippines best fighter.
Today the champ was chilling with close friends and family of coach Delfin Boholst. And from the look of Charly's unmarked complexion, it seems coach Boholst had him pretty well trained in the art of defense !
Charly Suarez is without peer in Philippines boxing.
He put on a masterclass tonight against the best young prospect in the country to claim the WBA Asia title and put the world on notice.
Tomjune Mangubat was physically imposing, and perhaps won the first two rounds of tonight's bout.
But Suarez hands and feet were so quick, and accuracy so good, he constantly picked off an advancing Mangubat. In the end, a fatigued Mangubat was dropped in the final round, and the ref waved it off.
Suarez showed that he is far and away the best fighter in the country, and big credit to Mangubat, he was outstanding.
He will no doubt achieve big things in the future and be a star for the Philippines.
FIGHT OF THE YEAR CONTENDER
Carl Jammes Martin pulls a Knockout in round 11 from a dominant Ronnie Baldonado in a classic.
Baldonado knocked down Wonder Boy in the second, and dominated till the mid stages, where a resurgent Martin edged back. In the end it was Martin's fitness that prevailed, against a totally exhausted Baldonado.
EPIC FIGHT!
Thats the way you want to see a champ defend his title!
Ben Ligas looked all class in a near shutout win over Roland Jay Biendima. The Elorde boxer looked balanced and in control and set up beautiful combos off his enviable jab.
Biendima was one tough SOB as expected, and landed some nice shots of his own. He definitely had Ligas hurt a couple of times in this quality national championship bout.
