It is no secret that the very popular Roy Roy Sumugat is one of the Elorde stable’s more “social” characters! But when in top shape, this stocky southpaw is one of the Philippines most under rated talents, and is capable of mixing it with the very best. And the great news is that Big Roy Sumugat is back next week at the Ultimate Knockout Challenge in Paranaque! Sumugat is originally from Bacolod City, but is now based in Manila with the Elorde team. He is constantly surrounded by quality fighters in that environment, and there is no doubt that the man known as D’Hammer has flourished this year with some regular sparring and competition. Roy has a natural flair for distance and timing, and knows how to drop the hammer when he has an opponent in trouble.
This former “part time” fighter is a major talent, and he has already notched up 12 wins against formidable opponents. D’Hammer has scored two stoppage victories already in 2021, and he shows no signs of slowing up!! In May he landed a surprise round one knockout over the rugged Eljohn Evangelista, and followed up in September with another knockout win over Glenn Bismanos. That match proved to be a great test of character for Sumugat, as he was actually dropped himself in round one, and bounced back to eventually wear down the dangerous Bismanos. Next month Big Roy returns, this time at the invitation of Juanito Paredes, a winner of 5 of his last 7 bouts. Paredes, also known as El Kapitan, is an excellent technician that boxes orthodox, so this should be a great bout showcasing patience, skills, and power between these two, But for the smiling RoyRoy, his ring name has been well earnt, and he certainly has great instincts when it comes to knowing the exact time to drop “D’Hammer” !
RoyRoy Sumugat returns to the ring on March 30 to take on top young prospect Richard Bulacan.
The swinging southpaw from the Elorde team is one of the most natural talents in Philippines boxing, and combine that with his vast experience, Sumugat always presents as a formidable opponent.
Bulacan is an awesome talent, and though only 23 years of age, has already racked up 8 wins to launch his pro career. Despite his successes, Big Roy Sumugat represents his biggest potential scalp so far.

Quality match up at 130 between RoyRoy Sumugat and Ivor "the Killer" Lastrilla.
The Killer showed enterprise and even dominace early in this match, with Big Roy Sumugat keeping a cool head and probing for opportunities as the fight progressed.
D'Hammer was really composed and strong at the end of this one, and showed he has plenty more great performances to come. Lastrilla was impressive in parts of this contest to, he sets up some combinations on southpaw Sumugat that were really thoughtful.

Despite a slow start, RoyRoy Sumugat wore down a very good looking Ivor Lastrilla.
Lastrilla appeared to outbox Sumugat in the opening sequence, and he looked to be in career best form. He definitely created problems for RoyRoy, and there are wins in store for this smart boxer without doubt. But it was Sumugat to the fore in latter rounds, with his accuracy and nice combination punching earning him the stoppage.

Love this fight, Mancito has fought the best (even Suarez ) and he did great. This is very definitely one of the best fights all day.

RoyRoy Sumugat and Jufel Salina turned on a battle for the ages in Parañaque on Sunday.
Jufel Salina is a top prospect who just impresses and improves with each bout, and his clash with "d'Hammer" was quality, high workrate, non stop action from the opening bell. The performance of Salina was so good in fact, it would have been no surprise if the referee had raised his hand after the final bell sounded.
Roy Sumugat had a splendid 2021, but was unfortunately stopped in his last match of the year, and his clash with Salina marked his long-awaited ring return. He weathered some great shots from Salina, but never looked vulnerable, and his accuracy in returning with meaningful work of his own clearly swayed the judges.
RoyRoy looked really composed and balanced against a "come to win" opponent, and this strong southpaw delivered quality responses every time he was asked a serious question.
This match reinforced the rise in calibre of Jufel Salina, and even more so, the level of performance that RoyRoy can produce under pressure.

It may get rough, it may get ugly, but it’s also one of the most highly anticipated match ups at ANNIHILATION UKC this August.
RoyRoy “d’Hammer” Sumugat meets Jufel “the Lion” Salina, and they are vowing to test each other “mano e mano” - in true Southpaw style!
Jufel Salina resumed from almost a two year absence to score an excellent stoppage win against Kresler Tenorio at the end of 2021. The Lion has managed to stay busy in 2022, and it has paid dividends. He faced the promising Jonniel Laurente in February, and in what appeared anybody’s fight, the judges agreed. Tenorio earned a Majority Draw, and in this match he really displayed significant improvements on his first up win. He then faced a really promising type in the shape of Justin Cabarles, and while its fair to say his opponent had some ring rust, the manner in which Tenorio stopped Cabarles was ultra impressive. This Davao born fighter has now scored 5 wins, 4 coming by knockout, so he obviously lacks nothing in the power department. The Lion is a rapidly improving fighter on the upswing. He’s dangerous!

Manila super lightweight Argie "Bomba" Toquero is back in action Saturday April 23rd when he takes on Abdurasul Ismoilov for the vacant WBO Oriental title.
The return marks a more than two year absence for the injury plagued southpaw, who's most recent effort was in beating Jimmy Borbon way back in February of 2020. Timing and power are the assets of the strongly built Toquero, who has scored 10 stoppages in his 13 wins.
Uzbekistan's Abdurasul Ismoilov is a formidable opponent, and is when based in Vietnam, he regularly spars at the VSP Gym in HCMC.
Whilst better known at lightweight, Ismoilov is a really technical southpaw, who has the ability to seamlessly shift stance. A winner of 9 of his 10 bouts, and robbed in his losing bout, it's hard not to be impressed with the skills of the Uzbekistan fighter. He is always well balanced, and similar to Toquero, he boasts plenty of firepower.

Bacolod's Genesis Servania will fight China's rising star Aketelieti Yelejian for the WBO Asia Lightweight title this November.
The highly-anticipated match up will take place on the undercard of the IBF world title fight between Pedro Taduran and Zhu DianXing at Jeju Island, South Korea.
Aketelieti Yelejian, who suffered a narrow loss to the Prince Albert Pagara in June, rebounded with an impressive IBF Asia victory against Korean Jin Su Kim in Vietnam recently. He is a very rangy and deceptive boxer known for his relaxed combinations, and he's supremely confident in his ability to take down Servania and claim the title.
"I've studied Servania's style, and I know I have the skills to outmaneuver him," Yelejian said yesterday.
"I'm excited to represent China on the international stage once more, and bring home an impressive win against a top and proven boxer like Genesis."
Servania, a seasoned veteran with a 35-4 record, boasts a reputation for toughness that has come from battles at the top level. And has still possesses some of the best body shots in the sport of boxing.
This important title shot gives the filipino the opportunity to re-establish himself on the world scene once more, and it's best remembered that his only defeats have came against world-ranked champions like Oscar Valdez and Andres Cortes.
But the China team have already confidently stated that Yelejian's youth, speed, height, and reach may all prove too much for the Filipino boxer.
Their optimism also exudes for the world title bout, where surprisingly, they are quite dismissive of Pedro Taduran's hopes of beating star Zhu DianXing. They actually rate their boxer so highly, they have predicted that the champion has no chance of retaining the belt.
