VSP boxer Lorenz Ladrada has had a busy and successful campaign in 2021, after a two year hiatus from the sport. The native of Bukidnon , and a former prospect with ALA in Cebu, has trained with the strong Elorde team in Manila since January. Next week Ladrada returns to the ring against quality southpaw Jason Buenaobra, and is looking to an emphatic win to close the year in style.
Lorenz “Cerberus” Ladrada has boxing in his blood. He left school at 10 and was a member of the Cagayan de Oro boxing team. By the time he was 17, he had joined ALA promotions in Cebu and made his professional debut. His last win for that organisation was in 2019 against Rimon Rama, and it was not long after that that the pandemic hit and Ladrada returned home to Mindanao.
It was a far heavier than previous version of the fighter that got on the scales on the first day of the year and weighed 146 pounds! Many even thought that Cerberus was pregnant!! But Ladrada managed to take off 20 pounds by February, and scored an impressive comeback win against the very physical Remon Basas. “Cerberus” followed up on this first up effort with excellent wins against Marklin Itim and Claudevan Sese, showing pleasing improvement with each match. His most recent match was definitely his best performance of the year, albeit a narrow loss at the hands of Gary “the Hawk” Tamayo. Ladrada and Tamayo had generated a great rivalry even before they stepped in the ring, and the match between the two top prospects didn’t disappoint. Southpaw Tamayo got the best of the early rounds, and Ladrada did the better work late, culminating in an exciting split decision win to Tamayo.
Lorenz Ladrada promises anyone that will listen ythat he will deliver his best performance of 2021 next week at the Ultimate Knockout Challenge in Paranaque. He boasts that all his signature moves of fast footwork, elusive defense and exhilarating shot selection will of course be on show. But he says that there is more, and that he is far better prepared for a quality southpaw like Buenaobra this time. Ladrada warns that his angles, his distance, and his punch volume will be a big step up from what he showed against Tamayo.
For sure, he will need it! Jason Buenaobra is a measured southpaw with great ring IQ!
Never one to worry, Lorenz “Cerberus” Ladrada has declared that he will win, and he will win pretty!.

Charly Suarez had been inactive (as were all local pinoy fighters) and the pandemic was proving to be a terrible time for many boxers who could not return home, and even worse, having a daily battle to feed themselves and their families.
VSP asked Mam Cucuy if it was possible to create a show so that Charly Suarez could resume his career. Despite all odds, she put together a great card that also unearthed another big talent - the Wolverine JonJon Estrada!
The event was aptly named Reboot "New Beginning" ,and even though there were only 5 bouts, and the boxers had to endure a "quarantine bubble", it was a lot of fun and marked the start of boxing again in the Philippines.

The relentless punching machine that is Remon Basas returns this month, and matches up with rangy young southpaw Jestine Ace Tesoro.
The bout will signal a move to the heavier weight classes for Basas, but without doubt, Olivetti Gym will have him well prepared for the task. The 24 year old fighter is still very much on the improvement path, but has already racked up 6 wins, and has experienced good opponents like Delmar Pellio, Lorenz Ladrada and Franco Serafica.
The great thing that has characterized all his performances is that he always brings the heat! This kid is relentlessly working in the ring, and has a low looping style that sets up really effective body punches.
Jestine Ace Tesoro is a really promising type. He had good moments against JonJon Estrada, outgunned a very savvy Lorence Rosas, and then was narrowly beaten in Japan. But for Remon Basas, Tesoro is just another guy across the ring, and he will be bringing a bucket load of BAD BAD intentions to the party !

The Aussie indigenous star and Ladrada will battle out 8 rounds tomorrow night at the Gold Coast on the undercard of the Mairis Briedis world cruiserweight title defense. Briedis has suffered only one loss in a glittering career, that being at the hands of current heavyweight world champ Oleksandr Usyk.
Bukidnon's Lorenz Ladrada resumed from a 2 year hiatus in early 2021, only to enjoy the busiest of years, winning 4 of his 5 matches, and pleasingly, showing constant improvements with each outing.
His consistency has been rewarded with a fight in Australia against one of that country's best super featherweight prospects, the very "Deadly" Dana Coolwell. The Aussie is one of those beautiful indigenous fighters, really fast hands, lots of clever volume, and blessed with intuitive skills and movement! And similar to Ladrada, each time we see Coolwell he just gets better and better. His last match was a narrow points loss for a world youth title that many believe he won.
This is a really interesting fight!
Coolwell is 2 to 3 weight classes above Ladrada, who also happens to be the much shorter boxer.
But the Aussie bout will be on the "middle ground " of featherweight, and as you can see from today's picture, Ladrada will strip very strongly at this weight. Dana Coolwell is tall and still growing, so it remains to be seen if he can bring his usual energy and pop to this world title undercard.
This is one of best undercards in Australia this year, and Ladrada v Coolwell is the main support to the world cruiser title between Mairis Briedis and Jai Opetaia.

TIGER 2022 plays host to an array of top name fighters, but without doubt, one of the best match ups is Olivetti’s Remon Basas taking on Jason Buenaobra.
These two boxers could not be any more different in style, yet both are on an upward trajectory. Perhaps the only form line that unites them, is a common opponent in the form of the very talented Lorenz Ladrada.
Remon “Bad Bad” Basas showed promising signs in his first bout of 2021, losing a points battle to Ladrada. Whilst beaten on timing and speed, he showed lots of come forward, and even late into the final round, he still loomed dangerously. He followed up that effort with an excellent win over a vastly improved Marklin Itim, a super close affair that was underscored by a massive punch count for both fighters. But it was the accuracy and shot selection of Basas that swayed the judges, and it was definitely a great showing by the Olivetti boxer.
Jason Buenaobra resumed from a long lay off, and took on Ladrada last December. Showing no signs of rust, “Manefisto” showed beautiful ring control from the southpaw stance, and dominated his opponent for much of the fight. The points loss doesn’t tell the whole story though, as he fought a better version of “Cerberus” Ladrada than Basas did, and he also enjoyed lots of great moments. That fight was also at featherweight, and no doubt, the move to super bantam will really assist his cause.
This one plays out as a total war!
Yes, Jason Buenaobra is the more experienced and technical boxer. But Basas is strong, and he also owns a swarming style that gives rivals no peace, and he will be looking to make this a very dogged, physical contest.
Can he solve the Buenaobra southpaw puzzle? Let’s see, but “Bad Bad” Basas definitely has plans to make life extremely uncomfortable for his classy opponent!

Lorenz Ladrada closes out the year having just engaged in a closely contested battle with the irrepressible Jason Buenaobra. The year proved busy for Bukidnon's Ladrada, who chalked up 4 wins and an SD loss to the promising Gary Tamayo. Flair and footwork were his travelling companions, and in 2022, expect to see more improvements to his repertoire.
Buenaobra was a revelation! He really toiled throughout this match, constantly taking Ladrada out of his comfort zone. He did such a great job, this smart southpaw was able to keep Ladrada on the backfoot for much of their quality bout. The effort of Jason Buenaobra was top class, and excited to see what he can deliver in 2022, especially if he drops to a more suitable weight class.

Jason "Manefisto" Buenaobra brought the heat, and some nice technical tools to go with it, in a superb match up with Bukidnon's Lorenz Ladrada at UKC. Buenaobra pressed dangerously for all six rounds, and presented lots of problems for Ladrada from a constantly pivoting southpaw stance. It was an energetic display by Buenaobra, and one that fell just short on a hard to score bout. This was a great showing by Manefisto, who looks certain ask serious questions of rivals in future fights.

to VSP PRO boxing girl Ngo Ngọc Linh Chi who just picked up Gold in the National Youth tournament.
Linh Chi won the 48kg category for 17-18 years, and despite it being a talent laden weight class, she showed some really good skills that complemented her signature high workrate style of boxing.
The Hanoi based fighter showed huge potential with her successful debut at VSP PRO in February, and it appears the sky is the limit for Ngo Ngọc Linh Chi.

Philippines veteran champion Richard Pumicpic was tagged with the moniker "The Beast" from earliest days :

The well traveled Richard Pumicpic will meet the outstanding and unbeaten Alfred Lamptey from Ghana this Saturday night in Dubai.
With 12 wins with 8 knockouts, Lamptey is regarded as a real prodigy in African boxing at only 21 years of age.

The Philippines Argie Toquero (13 wins) jumps a weight class tomorrow and registered 148lb on the scales.

It took former national boxing champion Nguyen Van Hai just 12 seconds to take down the on-form Abdul Motalib of Bangladesh at the international boxing event WBO Global Prelude.
Before the lightweight (61 kg) fight on Saturday night, Mottalib was in great form with five consecutive wins, including two victories by knockout. Hai, who has won the national championship for 14 consecutive times, also had five wins in six professional fights.
At the official weigh-in before the fight in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province that borders HCMC, Mottalib tried to provoke Hai by standing in front of him and blocking his view during the press conference. But Hai kept his composure.
There was not much to say about the fight as 12 seconds in, Hai threw a powerful and staggering right hook that immediately floored Motalib. The referee stopped the fight and gave a knockout win to Hai. This is his third knockout win after seven professional fights.
Boxers work very hard, but so too do the gentleman that preside over the regulatory frame that keeps our sport vibrant and our fighters as safe as possible.
A big shout out to these four - Vietnam's Lim Song, the Philippines' Richard Clarin, Japan's Tsuyoshi Yasukochi and South Korea's Aaron Jang - strident men who all share a unified vision of creating more opportunities for athletes in their respective countries.
A notable omission is China's Samson Lu, who flew back early, but has been an invaluable and encouraging mentor to Vietnam boxing.

Papua New Guinea's "PRODIGY" Junior Kauko Raka just touched down in Manila.
There are no direct flights from PNG to Vietnam, so it's an opportunity to say hello to old friends and visit Manila's famous Elorde gyms.

Mark John Yap has proved to be one of the best performed pinoys on the international circuit in recent years, and plans to add to his imposing record on the road in Vietnam this month.
The boxer affectionately dubbed "The Journey Man", and more recently as "Fat Yap", appears on a big show at The Grand Ho Tram Resort and Casino, amongst a strong lineup of fighters from many different countries.
Yap was impressive in winning in Manila in January, then followed up with a three month break to welcome the birth of his first child Yuri. He has slowly worked back into fight shape, and performed in an exhibition bout in Ho Chi Minh City last month.
And it was trademark Yap !
Despite getting off to a slow start, Mark John Yap proved too physical for national youth boxer Nguyễn Hà Minh, dropping him twice in the final round.
Yap will be looking for an emphatic showing on July 15th, before eyeing off bigger matches later this year.

Trận đấu hứa hẹn hấp dẫn khi cả hai võ sĩ đều sở hữu chuỗi thành tích ấn tượng. Minh Phát hiện có chín trận thắng, trong đó có bảy bằng knock-out, qua 13 lần thượng đài. Anh được trang BoxRec xếp hạng 1 sao cùng vị trí thứ 73 thế giới ở hạng minimumweight.
Zhu được đánh giá cao hơn nhờ tỷ lệ knock-out ấn tượng. Võ sĩ Trung Quốc thắng tám, trong đó có bảy bằng knock-out, qua chín trận chuyên nghiệp. Anh hiện là võ sĩ số một Trung Quốc ở hạng cân minimumweight.
Trên bảng xếp hạng thế giới, Zhu xếp trên Minh Phát 24 bậc và được trang BoxRec đánh giá ở cấp độ 2 sao. Zhu từng giành đai vô địch WBC châu Á vào năm 2019. Với bảng thành tích ấn tượng, Zhu chắc chắn sẽ là thử thách khó khăn cho tay đấm chủ nhà.

Tay đấm sinh năm 1988, từng bảy lần vô địch quốc gia sẽ so găng Abdul Motalib - đối thủ Bangladesh có biệt danh "Sát thủ Thầm lặng" với chuỗi 5 trận toàn thắng.
WBO Global Prelude còn có một số trận khác hứa hẹn hấp dẫn. Võ sĩ 17 tuổi mang hai dòng máu Việt - Hàn Lee Juyeong sẽ so tài đối thủ Indonesia Dedy Imprax. MIndanao's boxing legend Mark John Yap is showing no signs of slowing, and will be back in the ring again at a big international event in Vietnam next month.
Yap considered retirement after returning from Japan, which was shortly followed by the pandemic - but was coaxed to lace up one more time in a WBA Title match with Charly Suarez.
His performance was outstanding, and he followed it up with two quality wins shortly after.
The Journey Man was on a short break since January, after welcoming the birth of baby daughter Yuri, and he put on some kilos in that time.
Yap has been on a six week training camp, and competed in an exhibition bout last month with Vietnam youth team member Nguyễn Hà Minh. Despite looking "rusty" early in the match, he dropped his opponent twice in the final round to etch an impressive victory.
Having just recently arriving in Manila, Yap has been under the tutelage of Jetro Pabustan, who put him through a pads session today.

Nguyễn Văn Hải đối đầu võ sĩ bí ẩn tại sự kiện Boxing nhà nghề WBO Global Prelude
Liên tiếp thượng đài để hướng tới mục tiêu tranh đai, Nguyễn Văn Hải sẽ chạm trán một đối thủ đặc biệt ít thông tin ở trận đấu tại WBO Global Prelude sắp tới.
Theo lịch trình đã được công bố, tay đấm Nguyễn Văn Hải sẽ có trận đấu chuyên nghiệp thứ ba trong năm 2023 ở sự kiện WBO Global Prelude vào ngày 16 tháng 7. Tại đây, anh sẽ chạm trán võ sĩ người Bangladesh - Abdul Mottalib, trận đấu diễn ra trong vòng 8 hiệp ở hạng cân 61kg.
Về cơ bản, Abdul Mottalib không được đánh giá quá cao so với Nguyễn Văn Hải khi võ sĩ này chỉ xếp hạng 1022 thế giới, kém xa so với cấp độ 2 sao cùng vị trí 152 thế giới của Nguyễn Văn Hải. Thành tích 5 trận toàn thắng của Mottalib cũng đều diễn ra tại quê nhà Bangladesh khi anh chưa đối đầu tay đấm nào thực sự đáng chú ý. Trái lại, những thông tin ít ỏi cũng tạo ra phần nào khó khăn trong việc tìm hiểu về đối thủ của Văn Hải.

Yap and Raka shared the ring in Manila in late 2022, where the Papua New Guinea embraced the ominous task on just a few weeks notice. It was a great fight, and both boxers showed the sort of doggedness which will make them compulsory viewing in Vietnam.
