The Ultimate Knockout Challenge welcomes back the improving JL “J-Boy” Laurente. This will be the third fight in 2021 for the young fighter, when he takes on Marlon Bacalando in a four round opening match. The bout promises to be a much anticipated insight as to how far Laurente has progressed on the tail of his two career wins. The inaugural unveiling of this Elorde team member was back in July, when he met another debutant named Jeric Wayne Canawil. Despite boxing quite conservatively in that bout, Laurente stuck to a solid game plan and remained patient, before ultimately dropping his tiring opponent. It was a good start to a promising career that beckons for the young Paranaque based boxer. He followed that performance with a strong shutout victory of a resilient Fernando Tagpuno Jr, and again, patience and clever shot selections were his keys to victory. Laurente has all the right physical attributes – he is tall, young, and fast. He was a smart amateur, and he is now transitioning really well to the pro ranks. He already has a good grasp of being the ring general, and being a rangy southpaw, it means that he is a tactically difficult prospect for any young fighter to overcome.
The 20 year old J-BOY has been lucky enough to get invaluable experience sparring with some top fighters in Manila at Elorde, and this will no doubt fast track improvements to his game. J-Boy has sparred with some of the Philippines’ best boxers in preparation for next month’s battle with Marlon Bacalando. The pleasing thing about his work, is that he has shown constant improvements and problem solving skills in his workouts. These are welcome signs of a fighter with plenty of “upside”. Expect to see Jonniel Laurente do some good things in this fight, and go right on with it as his career progresses.
Chillers, thrillers and KILLERZZZ assembled at Elorde Southbox this morning for yet another training block.
Big fights coming!!

News on his opponent, and other great fighters destined for the BATTLEFIELD, will be coming soon !
The Ultimate Knockout Challenge "Domination " is only days away, but when you are making your debut, that can seem an eternity !
Elorde prospect Clarence Breboneria is one of a quality group having their first pro bout this Saturday, when he takes on Dennis Irenio in what should be a cracking 130lb bout. Breboneria is definitely one to keep your eye on, as he has more than held his own sparring far more experienced fighters in his preparation.
In contrast, team mate JL Laurente is a virtual "old hand", having won his first three matches. His most recent appearance resulted in a draw with the vastly improved Jufel Salina, and a repeat of that form will see him very hard to beat this Saturday.

Dear Partners,
I would like to take this moment to first wish you and your family a safe and blessed holiday season.
This annual report serves as a benchmark for our progress and a commitment to transparency in our operations. In 2024, a notable decline occurred in the number of professional boxing events held domestically. This downturn was primarily attributed to the cessation of grassroots events by VSP Promotions, a key promoter that played a crucial role in introducing new talent to the domestic professional boxing scene.
The challenges faced in organizing professional boxing events in Vietnam intensified in 2024 compared to the previous year, a reflection of the current market conditions. We anticipate this trend to persist in 2025 due to the continued existence of an unsupportive environment for event organizers, fostered by the local amateur boxing federation.
VBO organized the gathering of 10 commissions in Asia in 8/2024. It is our view that Asia has a fundamental challenge in how boxing is managed and supervised. Standardization and coherent cooperation models that have actionable and measurable outcomes will need to be developed in order to create more regional opportunities for the industry participants.
DOMESTIC REPORT 2024
INTERNATIONAL REPORT 2024
The VBO remains dedicated to securing international fight opportunities for Vietnamese boxers within safe environments. While the organization provides recommendations, the final decision to accept a fight rests solely with the boxers and their coaching teams.
OFFICIALS OF VBO REPORT 2024
VBO collects detailed performance data of each official in their assigned roles at every event. We compile these data for use towards training requirements to further improve their performance.
We hope that 2025 will bring more opportunities for the boxers between partnering countries and jointly continue to improve the quality of our officials. Have a wonderful holiday season! See you all in 2025.
Sincerely,
Lim Song
President of Vietnam Boxing Organization
