The freakishly talented Charly Suarez makes his international debut here, and with an IBF title against Indonesia’s number one fighter just to add more spice.
But why would we expect any less from a man who is very definitely the best technical boxer that the Philippines has ever produced.
Suarez has racked up 15 wins at home at breakneck speed, and has perhaps lost 2 rounds in the process. He finished every bout unscathed and with a smile, suggesting it is all easy work for him. To add merit to this, Suarez certainly hasn’t had it easy, meeting guys like JonJon Estrada, Tomjune Mangubat, Delmar Pellio, Mark John Yap and Carlo Magali along the way. These are high skilled veterans that have a commonality – they punch with hurtful intent, yet Suarez has breezed through as if he is in a training session, picking up WBA and national titles into the bargain.
Charly Suarez moves on to another significant opponent here, Indonesia’s best fighter Defry Palulu.
This is a guy that Suarez was meant to fight in early 2020 for the WBC title, and it was a fight that the Indonesian was favoured to win. However the match was canceled due to the pandemic, and thankfully, these two great fighters get to meet in Vietnam for the IBF Asia belt.
In spite of Suarez’s amazing success as a pro, many of his countrymen doubt his ability to impact at world level. They cite his age and lack of power as the main impediments. But those close to the camp disagree!
This may interest some.
The Suarez team maintain he has lots of power, and that he had no intent on hurting his own countrymen. His Objective at home was to get valuable rounds and build a petrol tank for bigger fights abroad. Mission accomplished !
He says there will be absolutely no mercy shown to any foreign rivals, and if there is a knockout to be had, you’re going to see it in high definition !

FORMER Olympian Charly Suarez makes another title defense of his World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia super featherweight title when he meets national champion Carlo Magali (25 wins) in Parañaque City on October 23.
Suarez is looking to remain unbeaten and continue his ascent in the super featherweight division and maintain a world title run. He’s currently ranked No. 36 in the super featherweight division by the World Boxing Council (WBC), in which the current titleholder is American star Shakur Stevenson.
The 34-year-old Suarez’s year has been very impressive. He started 2022 with a 12th round technical knockout of Tomjune Mangubat to win the vacant WBA Asia belt.
He followed up that win with a lopsided unanimous decision over Junny Salogaol in a tune-up last June. He then outclassed experienced Marjohn Yap by unanimous decision in his first WBA Asia title defense on Aug. 7.
Magali was supposed to fight in South Africa last Aug. 21 in an World Boxing Federation (WBF) lightweight title fight against Ayanda Nkosi but the fight was cancelled.
The rugged Magali has a reputation of scoring huge upsets. One of the biggest wins of his career was when he knocked out Davey Browne Jr. to win the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Pan Pacific super featherweight belt in Australia.
Unfortunately, Browne Jr. didn’t wake up from the knockout and died a few days later. Magali is also a former Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF).
He has also beaten the likes of Mark JohnYap (twice), Rey Perez, and Mark Gil Melligen. Magali was also impressive in his most recent performance, a dominant win over local lightweight star Al Toyogon.
Magali holds a record of 25 wins (13KO) and holds the pro experience edge over Suarez, who is unbeaten in 12 wins (7KO).
“We know we have lots of work to do to achieve our goals, and we are very grateful to get opportunities to fight good opponents for belts as we look to improve.” said the King’s Warrior Charly Suarez.
“Carlo Magali has been a big name in Philippines boxing for a long time, and he has also beaten some top guys that he wasn’t expected to beat. So, we don’t underestimate this boxer!
We are preparing for a war, as we expect that Magali will be trying for a brawl. He will be looking for the knockout. We will be smart, but are ready to fight fire with fire!”
Charly Suarez and Carlo Magali will be fighting for both the RP national and WBA Asia Championship belts.
Suarez is leaving nothing to chance in his world rankings surge, yet Magali has a style that has previously thwarted the plans of many more heavily favoured opponents.
Eduardo “the Nightmare” Mancito steps onto the BATTLEFIELD this October, and will face up to unbeaten lightweight prospect Jerald Into.
"The Nightmare" is far and away the most experienced opponent that Into has faced so far.
The 29 year old Mancito has fought against many of the division’s best, including bouts in countries like Mexico, Thailand and Japan.
As a boxer with 18 wins on his resume, The Nightmare brings valuable knowledge to the ring, and his no nonsense style have yielded him 9 KOs. His gritty toughness is also undeniable, having only been stopped twice in his career, both instances being at the hands of foreign opponents with outstanding records.
Eduardo Mancito has that enviable “warrior’s blood” He loves to fight, to challenge himself, and he ducks NOBODY! His last 3 losses are deceptive - they were at the hands of unbeaten boxers Charly Suarez and Jadier Hererra, and a very narrow defeat at the hands of once beaten Jose Roda Jr.
But tear up the form guides, Jerald Into represents a totally new challenge, and rest assured, Eduardo Mancito will be looking to turn this into a "Nightmare" experience for the unbeaten southpaw.
Eduardo Mancito: 18Wins (9KO) 14Losses (3KO) 2Draws
FORMER Olympian Charly Suarez makes another title defense of his World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia featherweight title, this time, against tough journeyman Carlo Magali on Oct. 23 at The Flash Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Complex in Parañaque City.
Suarez is looking to remain unbeaten and continue his ascent in the super featherweight division in the hopes of a world title run. He’s currently ranked No. 36 in the super featherweight division by the World Boxing Council (WBC), in which the current titleholder is American star Shakur Stevenson.

Unfortunately, Browne Jr. didn’t wake up from the knockout and died a few days later. Magali is also a former Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF).
He has also beaten the likes of Yap, twice, and Mark Gil Melligen and, just two years ago, Al Toyogon.
Suarez is 12-0 with seven knockouts, while Magali is 25-13-3 with 13 knockouts.
Also seeing action in the same card are unbeaten prospects Weljon Mindoro (8-0, 8 KOs) and Ali Canega (6-0-1, 4 KOs), and Claudevan Sese (7-3-3, 1 KO).

Team Suarez says the work never stops, and whilst they have lofty world title ambitions, their immediate focus is October 23rd in Parañaque City.
"We know we have lots of work to do to achieve our goals, and we are very grateful to get opportunities to fight good opponents for belts as we look to improve." said the King's Warrior Charly Suarez.
"Carlo Magali has been a big name in Philippines boxing for a long time, and he has also beaten some top guys that he wasn't expected to beat. So, we don't underestimate this boxer!
We are preparing for a war, as we expect that Magali will be trying for a brawl. He will be looking for the knockout. We will be smart, but are ready to fight fire with fire!"

BATTLEFIELD UKC TIGER 2O22
Elorde Sports Centre Paranaque Manila Sunday October 23rd
Charly Suarez and Carlo Magali are both known for blazing hands and massive punch counts, so expect a fistic smorgasbord of full on attack when these two fighters meet on October 23rd.
Magali makes his eagerly awaited return after an unfortunate run of fight cancelations.
When we last saw "The Ferocious", he was simply outstanding, besting a very good young fighter by the name of Al Toyogan (who has looked unbeatable since!)
It also should be remembered that just prior to his Toyogan match, Carlo Magali was slated to fight unbeaten Miguel Berchelt for the world title, a fight that was widely acknowledged as the toughest test yet encountered for the formidable title holder.
Carlo Magali is the current Philippines national champion, and in true champion spirit, will put that title on the line when he faces Suarez. Likewise, the King's Warrior will offer up his WBA belt for the October 23rd match at Elorde Sports Centre Paranaque.
The unbeaten Suarez has been in outstanding touch, and is certainly lucky to have a swathe of quality opponents and sparring partners around his weight class.
His most recent win against a very savvy Mark John Yap will give you a taste of what to expect this October.
The King's Warrior is on a short turn around, and will face up to Philippines' national champ Carlo Magali in Parañaque on October 23.Suarez was originally slated to fight a foreign opponent in Danang, but the October 29 date made a planned December match unworkable.
The VSP boxer is enthusiastic about the task ahead :"Yes, we had planned to fight India's number one boxer in Danang, but the date was a little too late for our schedule. We are very fortunate to be able to get to match a top professional like Carlo, he has been one of the big names in boxing for many years. I like the challenge because Carlo Magali always brings a great fight!"Magali was recently preparing for a big match in South Africa that was canceled. The Bohol bred fighter quickly jumped at the opportunity to test himself with the WBA champion Suarez. Magali is the current national champion, and when last in the ring, defeated the highly promising Al Toyogan.
The match between Charly Suarez and Carlo Magali will be the main event of another big card at Elorde Sports Centre on Sunday October 23rd. The combatants will be competing for WBA Asia and RP title honours in what will be an action packed bout.
Carlo Magali has signed to fight Charly Suarez in October in Manila.
"The Ferocious" was slated to fight in South Africa, but when that fight failed to materialise, was quick to challenge the unbeaten Suarez.
Magali is a last start victor over powerful prospect Al Toyogan, and he also has two wins to his credit over Mark John Yap on his excellent resume. Yap is a multiple OPBF champ, and the most recent in a string of excellent local opponents for former Olympian Suarez.
The match which is proposed for October 23rd, will see Charly Suarez will defend his WBA title, and in a confident gesture, Carlo Magali will put his national RP belt on the line.
This is an exciting time for Philippines boxing where the fighters are embracing the opportunity for best to face best!
More news on this match up coming soon.
Charly Suarez vs Mark John Yap showcases exciting high level boxing! Thank you Angela Yambao for incredible photos!
Mark John Yap and Charly Suarez stole the show with top echelon performances in the WBA Asia title match in Parañaque yesterday. Yap looked in outstanding shape at the weigh-in, and that aesthetic translated to a phenomenal ring performance.
VSP are a huge fan of the CDO boxer, but it must be said, he turned on what was likely a career best display against a career best opponent.
Yap trained in the altitude of Baguio for yesterday's battle, and the strength and endurance gained in that camp had him asking questions of champion Suarez right till the end.
"The Journeyman" threw an array of quality punches at the former Olympian, and if you weren't watching closely, take note. Jabs of different speed and trajectory, and by altering his front foot, constantly probing for different angles to find a way in. He threw lead hooks, high and low, often forcing Suarez onto the back foot to cover up. But it was probably the combinations he created off lead uppercuts that were his most impressive work, and the comments heard from the knowledgeable section of the crowd were unanimous.
"If that's any other guy, other than Suarez, that guy is getting knocked out !"
Mark John Yap put on an awe inspiring display of skills and bravery that won plenty of new fans. He showed the pedigree of a multiple title winner who has fought the very best in his 30 match winning career.
And for Charly Suarez, what can be said?
His sublime shut out offering actually reflects more upon his extraordinary gifts than the effort produced by his rival.
Speed, power, shot selection, distance, and execution were just really pinpoint. His template for war games is just so concise, it will take something extraordinary to halt his rapid advance up the world rankings.
Manny Pacquiao was a phenomenon, an indomitable blend of speed and power, a freak of nature, the likes of which we will likely never see again.
But if there has EVER been a better "boxer" produced in the Philippines than Charly Suarez in the last 50 years, I can hand on heart say, I have never seen it!
WOW!!! It's this weekend!! We are supercharging up the weekend with 20 pro fights and 4 title belts!

WBA title challenger Mark John Yap pictured today and looking the best he has in years!
YAP IS BACK !
The proud son of Cagayan de Oro has been busy in camp, training at altitude in the cool mountains of Baguio, and the reports are, he is in unbelievable shape for his clash with the King's Warrior Charly Suarez.
Mark John Yap has been a force on the international scene for many years now, earning him the moniker "the Journeyman", and his experience at the highest level (30 wins) creates the setting for an intriguing and highly strategic fight with champion Suarez.
Yap is technically so efficient, but be sure, the man has plenty of pop too!
This Journeyman looks to have the style to give Charly Suarez his biggest test on home soil

Mark Magsayo is striving for the world #1 spot when he battles unbeaten 35 and 0 Rey Vargas in Texas today. Whilst showing flaws in his unblemished career thus far, Magsayo has equally shown an ability to improve with every new challenge, and brings speed and power to the ring that very few can surpass.
But he is not the Philippines lone hope to shine bright on the world stage!
Charly Suarez is without doubt the best and most technical boxer that the Philippines has ever produced (and yes, we are including the phenomenon that is Manny Pacquiao) He has been the most heralded amateur of the last decade, winning three SEA Games gold, and losing controversially at the Olympics to the outstanding Joe Cordina. This British boxer is now IBF World champ, after destroying Japan's Kenichi Ogawa with a stunning knockout.
The King's Warrior's world claims were scalable long ago. It is now almost part of folklore that he faced the fabled Vasyl Lomachenko on 5 days notice and visibly injured, only to make the champion work overtime to earn a victory. The Philippines Suarez was out of the ring for 18 months to rehabilitate from this extraordinary effort.
Charly Suarez has made an immediate impact in the pro ranks, and it could be argued that as successful as he was as an amateur, he's even better suited to the longer round format. The unbeaten fighter has amassed 11 wins in extra quick time, and is looking to a WBA title defense next month against Mark John Yap.
And it is expected that the busy Suarez will have at least two more fights this year.
No rest if you are chasing a world title !
Good luck to Mark Magsayo today, and to Charly Suarez, it won't be long before these world top 10 can't hide from you!

Davao's Charly Suarez returned to Manila this week after a short stint in his native Davao. The King's Warrior is on a quick turnaround, after winning a warm up bout in Bohol in early July in preparation for his upcoming WBA title defense. The champ reunited this week with strategist and coach Delfin Boholst, who is based in Manila. Boholst has thus far proved to be a mentor of high calibre, and was himself a successful member of the Philippines national team.
Suarez was slated to fight no less than four outstanding foreign opponents for his Manila defense, with all withdrawing at the last moment for various reasons.
VSP Promotions are a huge fan of Mark John Yap, and when this boxer became available, he was immediately secured to match up with Suarez. Yap is arguably one of the best internationally performed pinoy in recent years, playing headmaster to an extremely tough school in Japan. Between 2015 and 2018, he literally terrorized that country's best fighters, before returning to the Philippines for a Knockout victory in CDO. His recent "losses" have been last moment call ups against unbeaten foreign opponents, often in unsuitable weight class.
And for those who think that Yap is past tense, THINK AGAIN, and check his most recent effort in Dubai against unbeaten Cuban Jadier Hererra.
Yap took this match at two weeks notice, jumped a weight class, and floored Hererra with a body shot. Hererra is a Cuban national champ, and world youth semi finalist, and had a massive 5 inches height advantage on Mark John Yap.
Coach Delfin Boholst is enthusiastic about the challenge ahead.
"We are really honored, and looking forward to the test against Yap. He is definitely the most experienced pro we have faced so far, and he has been a warrior for the Philippines against top fighters overseas. We do not underestimate the talents of this man, and we are preparing to see the very best of Mark John Yap in August".
"As for Suarez team, the job is never finished. We always look to improve, and we will always be prepared for any opponent. We are not looking past Mark John Yap, but going forward, we would love to fight Liam Wilson of Australia. We would also love the chance to rematch world champ Joe Codrington, it's one we are very excited for !"
Suarez v Yap will fight for the WBA Asia title in Paranaque Manila on Sunday August 7th.
Outstanding pinoy Mark John Yap returns to the local fight scene on Sunday August 7th, where he takes on rising star Charly Suarez for the WBA Asia title.
Yap has proved to be one of the Philippines most successful exports in recent years. Between 2015 and 2018, he literally tore the Japanese bantamweight division to shreds, winning and successfully defending the OPBF title on no less than four occasions. He then returned to the Philippines, and in front of his home town, knocked out the exciting 130lb prospect Ulysses Lagos (12-2)
The experienced Mark John Yap has met some of the world's best fighters, and had no hesitation jumping at the opportunity to fight the freakish Suarez.
"I know with the right preparation, I can give anyone a great fight, and I really look forward to seeing if Suarez is as good as they say".
Mark John Yap heads to Manila on August 7th with the phenomenal record of 30 wins and 15 knockouts. Considering his calibre of opponents in the last 8 years, the talented "Journey Man" could easily have amassed 50 wins !

MANILA, Philippines – With the Philippines beginning to open further after two crippling years of lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, boxer Lito Dante is one of those eager to reclaim his old life and, well, battle for a championship.
On Sunday, Dante (18-11-4) will fight Cebuano pugilist Clyde Azarcon for the WBF International minimumweight championship at the Elorde Sports Complex in Sucat, Parañaque.
The bout against Azarcon will be Dante’s second of the year after the 32-year-old Bohol native knocked out Ryan Ralozo last April 30. Because of the quick win, Dante did not sustain any serious injuries that allows him to fight four months later.
“Matagal-tagal din tayo walang laban,” smiled Dante. “Kaya naghahabol din.”
Dante, who now calls Valenzuela home, also has a dual purpose in needing to win this fight.
“Kung pagpalain tayo at manalo sa laban na ito, makakabalik ako sa world rankings,” explained the man nicknamed “Naruto.”
His inactivity during the global lockdown saw him unable to defend Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation minimumweight title that he won in 2019.
“Excited ako sa laban na ito at makabawi, enthused Dante who has been training under the watchful eye of Florence Ferrer, former national team boxer, Southeast Games medalist, and known for training the first ever Filipina world boxing champion in Gretchen Abaniel.
He won’t find it easy against Azarcon, who is five years his junior and has a better overall record at 17-4-1. Furthermore, he is taller and has a slightly longer reach.
Azarcon, though, is coming off a loss to John Paul Gabunilas last March 19.
“Ang masasabi ko lang is pagbubutihin ko ang pag-ensayo at sa pagdating ng laban sa Agosto,” summed up Dante.
Dante will be co-headlining the August 7 event along with former Olympian Charly Suarez (11-0), who will defend his WBA Asia super featherweight belt against Marjohn Yap (30-16). Meanwhile, Allan Villanueva (11-2) and Al Toyogon (12-6-1) slug it out for the vacant WBF Asia Pacific lightweight championship.

MANILA, Philippines – "What is a pretty and educated girl like you doing in sweaty boxing gyms and trying to knock someone out?"
Rica Aquino has heard it before.
It’s a little more “complicated” than that.
Aquino graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the University of the Philippines and played with the Manila Symphony Orchestra for 10 years. She also taught music at Brent International School for six years.
Well, she still performs when the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra needs an extra musician and teaches music literature at the Philippine High School for the Arts.
But when Aquino is outside the performance hall and classroom, she’s a professional boxer.
“I have been fascinated with fighting sports (even as a child) but as a child playing the violin and as a professional musician, I was restricted in terms of the sports I wanted to do,” Rica related. “So I took up combat sports when I was an adult already and after I had resigned from the orchestra.”
Now, as a 39-year old, Aquino is looking to make her mark in professional boxing.
“I love the competitive aspect of the sport, the discipline, and of course, the risk and thrill of competing.”
Boxing is actually her third sport as she previously took up Muay Thai where she was a National Games silver medalist. She then took up mixed martial arts under the famed Team Lakay of Mark Sangiao.
On August 7, Aquino (0-0-1) will take part in her second professional fight at UKC Annihilation at the Elorde Sports Center in Sucat, Parañaque.
She will square off against a familiar foe from the past in Erika Ballen, who she first tangled with in 2017 as an amateur.
“We faced each other in 2017 and now, five years later, things have changed,” said Aquino, who won that encounter via first round technical knockout. “I’m excited to see how much we have changed and developed.”
Rica previously fought Indian boxer Deepika Tiwari, who brought her 1-1-2 record to the ring against the Filipina. The fight ended in a draw.
“The fight card in August is amazing,” enthused Aquino. “I am honored to be fighting with my idols Charly Suarez and my teammate Lito Dante. Some of the other boxers are also my friends so I am excited for this card.”
“I have been training hard for this fight as women’s fights are few in this country. I will give it my best and try to get that first professional win.”
FORMER Olympian Charly Suarez returns to the ring on Aug. 7 to defend his World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia super featherweight belt against what should be one of his toughest opponent to date, veteran Marjohn Yap, in the main event of UKC Tiger - “Annihilation” at the Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Center in Parañaque City.
The 33-year-old Suarez hopes to get a world ranking and an impressive win over an experienced former regional champion like Yap could boost him up the super-featherweight ladder.
Suarez started the year 2022 with a 12th-round technical knockout of prospect Tomjune Mangubat to win the vacant WBA Asia super-featherweight strap in Parañaque City last March. He followed it up with a unanimous decision win over tough Junny Salogaol last June 10 in Bohol.
Yap, on the other hand, is on a three-fight slump, fighting in the US and Dubai.
The 33-year-old Yap lost to one-time world title challenger Angelo Leo, undefeated American up-and-comer Angel Alejandro and unbeaten Cuban prospect Jadier Herrera.
Before his short campaign in the US, Yap had an impressive seven-year stint in Japan, where he won the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) bantamweight belt and went 12-5. He won against the likes of former interim WBA minimumweight champion Juan Jose Landaeta and three-time world title challenger Hiroyuki Kudaka.
Suarez is 11-0 with seven knockouts, while Yap is 30-16 with 15 knockouts.
Also featured in the same card are two World Boxing Foundation (WBF) regional bouts.
Clyde Azarcon (17-4-1, 6 KOs) fights against battle-scarred veteran Lito Dante (18-11-4, 10 KOs) for the vacant WBF International minimumweight strap, while Allan Villanueva (11-2, 8 KOs) slugs it out with Al Toyogon (12-6-1, 8 KOs) for the vacant WBF Asia Pacific lightweight belt.
Also booked in the undercard is Vietnamese Van Hai Nguyen (2-0, 1 KO) taking on fellow unbeaten prospect Jerald Into (4-0, 4 KOs).

With three Championship title matches in one event, UKC Tiger ANNIHILATION brings to you triple-header championship matches with 18 undercard bouts!
Featuring the title defense of WBA Asia Super featherweight champion Charly "King's Warrior" Suarez, as well as two vacant championship matches for the WBF International Minimumweight title and the WBF Asia Pacific Lightweight title.
All of these must-watch fights are set to take place at the Grand Ballroom, Elorde Sports Complex, Sucat, Paranaque City on August 7th.
There were lots of promising fighters at last night's show in Bohol, spearheaded by victories by local Virgel Vitor and Davao's Charly Suarez in the co-main events.
Rhonvex Capuloy is definitely one to keep on the watch list, scoring a stoppage win with a body shot in the second round.
Perhaps the most competitive contest of the night was between Joseph Sumabong and Zandy Padiran, with Sumabong prevailing with a points win.
This was high quality work from both fighters, and whilst Sumabong deserved the decision with some artful strikes, Zandy Padiran was ultra impressive. It is almost impossible to believe that these two fighters only have four wins between them, as they both showed signs of being way more experienced. Definitely put a watch on these two, they are both excellent.
Charly Suarez was in training mode with a shutout win over a tough and resilient Junny Salogaol in Bohol last night.
The King's Warrior was chasing some rounds in preparation for his upcoming title defense, and Salogaol did admirably to weather the storm and survive the 6 rounds. While it's fair to say that Suarez's opponent came to survive rather than compete, the plan worked, and the King's Warrior was able to dazzle the crowd with his footwork, hand speed and withering combinations.
WBA title defense is coming August 7th !
This will be a stacked show, and held in the Elorde Ballroom in Paranaque and must not be missed. It's possibly the last chance to see Charly Suarez to fight in front of his home crowd, so get there to cheer him on. LOUDLY!!!
Announcement on who will be the Suarez opponent, and the rest of the fight card coming soon.
FORMER Olympian Charly Suarez keeps himself busy in a six-round fight against journeyman Junny Salogaol on June 10 in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
Suarez is coming off the biggest win of his career after stopping young prospect Tomjune Mangubat to win the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia super featherweight belt last March 12 in Paranaque City.
The 33-year-old Suarez is preparing for a title defense in August against a foreign opponent.
Salogaol, in the meantime, is a very experienced fighter that has elite opposition, the likes of Hiroaki Teshigawara and Joe Noynay.
He’s dropped his last four contests and is coming off a split decision loss against former regional champion Jessie Cris Rosales.
Suarez is 10-0 with seven knockouts, while Salogaol is 14-19-5 with 13 knockouts.
Virgel Vitor faces Jecker Buhawe in a six-round co-main event.
Vitor won three straight fights since losing to veteran Mark Anthony Geraldo. He’s coming off a unanimous decision win over Lorence Rosas last December.
Buhawe, on the other hand, is on a six-fight slump and is fresh from a second round knockout in the hands of Jun Blazo last April.
Vitor is 16-2 with nine knockouts, while Buhawe is 16-16-1 with 10 knockouts.
In the undercard, Danrick Sumabong (11-2, 8 KOs) locks horns with Royder Lloyd Borbon (6-12-1, 6 KOs); Rhonvex Capuloy (7-2, 4 KOs) fights Vicento Casido (6-4-1, 2 KOs); Joseph Sumabong (1-0, 1 KO) trades leathers with Zandy Padiran (3-3-1, 1 KO); Chris John Daan (1-0) is up against Cedie Noblefranca (0-7-1); and Richard Taculod makes his pro debut against Steve Noblefranca (1-4-1).

The appearance of Philippines best boxer Charly Suarez is a huge treat for locals, as it is likely the last opportunity to seem him perform live. His bout will be a prelude to a WBA defense in Manila on August 7th, which will likely mark the champ's last local appearance for some time.
It is expected that Suarez will fight overseas in October, and again in Vietnam on December 11th, in pursuit of more titles and world rankings.
News on a Suarez opponent for August 7th in Manila is expected to break soon.
Boxers need to keep busy!
Charly Suarez defends his WBA title in Manila on August 7th, but will take part in a provincial event this Friday to assist in his preparations for that task.
And because Bohol love their boxing!
Some great fighters will compete at the show, including local star Virgel Vitor (16 wins), Danrick Sumabong (11 wins) and Rhonvex Capuloy (7 wins).
This is a great opportunity for Suarez to get some rounds in before his Manila assignment on August 7th.
Expect a WBA title opponent to be named for the King's Warrior in coming days.
Annihilation UKC is assembling an all star cast for Sunday August 7th!
We are going for an international flavour and have already secured Michael Pengue (Australia), Linn Sandstrom (Sweden) and the iconic Nguyễn Văn Hải (Vietnam) to come to Manila and mix it up with the Philippines fighters.
The biggest news is that Charly Suarez will defend his WBA belt, and we are very close to terms with a foreign opponent that claims he will halt the world title aspirations of the local star.
We say - bring it on!
This will be a MUST NOT MISS event, big news breaking soon on the full fight card!
Banging times ahead for some of the Elorde crew.
Gretel De Paz heads to Australia in June, then Lorenz Ladrada to Australia, Cris Ganoza and the Wolverine JonJon Estrada to Japan, and Jules Victoriano to Vietnam, all in July.
Ranny Quizo also meets Rodel Suganob in a local derby that same month.
DON'T FORGET we will have a big card for Manila on August 7th, where we are working to get the Philippines best Charly Suarez his first foreign opponent in the professional ranks.
Also very exciting news breaking late last night is the appearance at this show of the promising and unbeaten Jerald Into.
For those who aren't familiar with the name, you are sure to hear a lot more!
This is a boxer who has settled his first 4 fights with dramatic Knockouts !
The Suarez team spotted earlier today, plotting and planning the year ahead.
Charly Suarez went to 10 and 0 and top seventy in the world, when he recently captured the WBA Asia title in Manila.
The King's Warrior was to defend that title in Dubai this June, only to have the match postponed, in part, due to boxers trying to avoid the Philippines star!
OK plans change!
Suarez team stay busy, so he will have a regular bout in June, and follow that up with a title defense locally or abroad 6 weeks later.
VSP Promotions will stage an iconic event in Vietnam in December, and plans are already in place to secure Suarez a world rated opponent for the HCMC outdoor show. It is expected that many thousands of people will watch the King's Warrior, and some other pinoy stars, fight at the extravaganza.
This was a classic match up, held at the iconic Hoan Kiem Lake in the Vietnam capital of Hanoi.
This fight attracted a crowd of 25,000 people, and a television audience of millions.
Expect to see another big Victory8 event make its long awaited return in HCMC later this year.
The Games and Amusement Board recognized Philippines best boxer Charly Suarez, naming him their " Boxer of the month" in their recently released March ratings.
"Charly Suarez stuns Tomjune Mangubat with a 12 round TKO and bags the WBA Asia Super Featherweight title at the Elorde Sports complex in Paranaque City, March 12th, under VSP Promotions. "
Congratulations to the King's Warrior and wishing you continued success in your exciting career ahead. You work extremely hard to make the impossible look easy, and you put a smile on the faces of Philippines fight fans. Bravo !!
The King's Warrior Charly Suarez at this morning's training session in Manila, and already looking in pristine condition.
Suarez returned to the city last week from his home in Davao, and will now begin work in earnest for his upcoming assignment.
What's coming next for Suarez ?
News breaking soon.

Lorenz Ladrada is one of the many talented Mindanao fighters to compete in Manila in recent events.
The participation of visitor fighters to Luzon, amidst the difficulties the Elorde team encountered to even create events during lockdown, definitely deserves special mention.
At TIGER 2O22, Tomjune Mangubat, Charly Suarez, and Ronnie Baldonado formed three parts of the two headline fights - all Mindanao boys.
Lorenz "Cerberus" Ladrada is a proud son of the mountains, hailing from Malitbog Bukidnon, so it is fantastic to see his family and friends get behind his journey, and even receive a salutation from the mayor.
Well done to Lorenz Ladrada and all the fighters that have managed to keep the faith and stay competitive in these hard times.
Big congrats to the "'King's Warrior" Charly Suarez for his iconic performance against Cebu star Tomjune Mangubat in the main event fight at TIGER 2O22.
The bout had the added prestige of a regional title, and the win by Suarez elevates him in the world rankings with the potential for bigger fights to come.
THANK YOU WBA ASIA - COOL BELT !!
Charly Suarez puts on a masterful performance to win the WBA Asia title against outstanding prospect Tomjune Mangubat.
The win positions the Philippines best boxer now at 10 and 0, and he rockets into the world rankings.
So what's next?

Charly Suarez enjoying the after glow of a super day of fights at the TIGER 2O22 Ultimate Knockout Challenge yesterday in Paranaque.
The King's Warrior played his part, winning an iconic and exciting WBA Asia title contest with freak Cebu warrior Tomjune Mangubat. It was a world class performance by the two combatants, and one that will have the world's best ducking the Philippines best fighter.
Today the champ was chilling with close friends and family of coach Delfin Boholst. And from the look of Charly's unmarked complexion, it seems coach Boholst had him pretty well trained in the art of defense !
Charly Suarez is without peer in Philippines boxing.
He put on a masterclass tonight against the best young prospect in the country to claim the WBA Asia title and put the world on notice.
Tomjune Mangubat was physically imposing, and perhaps won the first two rounds of tonight's bout.
But Suarez hands and feet were so quick, and accuracy so good, he constantly picked off an advancing Mangubat. In the end, a fatigued Mangubat was dropped in the final round, and the ref waved it off.
Suarez showed that he is far and away the best fighter in the country, and big credit to Mangubat, he was outstanding.
He will no doubt achieve big things in the future and be a star for the Philippines.

Omega Cebu coach Julius Erving Junco didn’t mince words at yesterday’s press conference. He believes that former Olympian Charly Suarez can’t mix it with their star, and if he does, he will lose every round or even worse – be KNOCKED OUT!
TOMJUNE Mangubat looks to score a huge upset today, March 12, as he faces highly touted former Olympian Charly Suarez in a World Boxing Association (WBA) super featherweight title fight in the main event of “Ultimate Knockout Challenge: Tiger 2022” at The Flash Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Complex in Parañaque City, Metro Manila.
The 24-year-old Mangubat is coming in as an underdog against Suarez, who has been impressive in his career as a pro.
Mangubat, however, hopes to derail the Suarez hype train and hand him his first career defeat.
“That’s what we want for him to go toe-to-toe. We believe he’ll run. They will have a bigger chance of winning if it goes the distance because it’s their promotion,” Mangubat’s coach Julius Erving “Jinggoy” Junco told SunStar Cebu. “If possible (we’ll knock him out). We could also win all the rounds and show the judges that we’re in control.”
Mangubat tipped the scales at 129 pounds, while the 33-year-old Suarez weighed-in a pound lighter at 128 pounds.
The winner of the fight could break into the WBA super featherweight rankings and step closer at a world title shot.
Mangubat is 15-2-1 with 12 knockouts, while Suarez is 9-0 with six knockouts.

The super talented Mangubat is fighting the hottest property in Philippines boxing, the former Olympian and unbeaten pro, Charly Suarez.
So clinical has the King's Warrior been since leaving the amateurs, he is yet to lose a round in 9 fights (6 KO)
Mangubat has built an impressive resume of his own, racking up 15 wins against some quality opponents. Three of his last 4 fights have been wicked and thunderous stoppages!
The clash of these two super fighters promises to be a thriller.
"We are always up for the biggest challenges. We can't wait to perform. Let's go champ! We will rock your show!" enthused a supremely confident and proud Coach Julius.
This will be a fight to tell your grand kids about!
Do not miss it for anything.
Make no mistake, Tomjune Mangubat is perhaps the hottest prospect in the country right now, and at the age of just 24, is already planning the downfall of the best fighter in the Philippines.

The King's Warrior, when asked today how he is feeling leading up to his mega fight with Tomjune Mangubat for the WBA Asia title on Saturday March 12th :
"Happy Happy Great training result and a positive outcome. I can't wait !"
A picture speaks a THOUSAND words !!
Charly Suarez took on the unbeaten Justin Cabarles in his second professional bout. Cabarles was a tall unbeaten orthodox with lots of skills and potential.
In his previous fight, Cabarles won against another unbeaten prospect by the name of Jhunrick Carcedo. The merit of that Cabarles victory was obvious, as Carcedo won his subsequent four fights by KO, and is now the #2 ranked super lightweight in the Philippines.
Enjoy the round two action of Suarez in his second pro fight, against a very game Justin Cabarles.
Suarez is now 9 and 0 as a professional, and fights Tomjune Mangubat for the WBA Asia title in Paranaque on Saturday March 12th.
The boxers competing at TIGER 2O22 Ultimate Knockout Challenge not only are super talented, they really look the part!
This is because of the cool and creative efforts of Raoul Navarrete and his team at Be Athletic, who look after not only the best athletes in the Philippines and abroad, they make these designs available to the fan market also.
Charly Suarez is out to make a statement on March 12th that he is the Philippines #1 fighter in any division, and he says he loves the Be Athletic gear.
We will show you the designs that some of the boxers have had customized in the coming days - they are amazing !
Even visiting boxer Linn Sandstrom (Australia ) was so impressed, she has had her outfit made by Be Athletic.
So get with the program, if you wanna BE ATHLETIC, (and look great) contact them for all your fight and Activewear needs.
Thanks Raoul Navarrete and Be Athletic !
The King's Warrior Charly Suarez has heard all the talk, and he just smiles, and says it will soon be time to walk the walk!
Suarez has been told of the noise coming out of Cebu - that he is better suited to the amateurs, that he doesn't have the power to be a top class pro, that he will be on his bike against Mangubat, and that he won't last 12 rounds, blah blah blah.
Omega Cebu team is supremely confident to take Suarez into very deep waters and drown him, to which the champion replies :
"Yes the deep waters can be dangerous, so please Mangubat team, make sure you are good swimmers! The WBA belt is mine, but if you want it, sure, come swimming in the dark waters and take it from me bro!"
And yes, as usual, Charly says it all with a smile!

Maybe the best young prospect in Korean boxing, but definitely the proud owner of a killer ring name, Chan-Ho Song, popularly known as Purge Boy, is Vietnam bound !
Currently training in Gen San, Purge Boy has been mixing with the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Vietnam champion Dinh Hong Quân and yes, even Pablito Canada !
Chan-Ho Song will head to the Fortunes of War event to defend his WBO Oriental Youth super lightweight title against the hard punching Thai Anuson "BoomBoom" Thonglueang.
Song is unbeaten in 8 bouts, whilst his opponent has been an absolute revelation, destroying 12 fighters in a row after losing his debut. The ring name BoomBoom says it all, and this Thai has knocked out 9 of his victims.
This will be a cracking youth title, and with Thonglueang at 18 years, and Song at 19, the sky is the limit for these two young firebrands.

The Fortunes of War will introduce some of Asia's best fighters to Vietnam, and be advised, Indonesia are sending their "A" TEAM !
Paisal Panjaitan, coach and manager Armin Tan,and Defry Palulu formed an intimidating triumvirate pictured after yesterday's training.
And the team are pumped for bold showings at The Grand Ho Tram.
Paisal Panjaitan has been boxing less than 5 years, yet has already chalked up three impressive wins in his short time in boxing. "Geronimo" is in stark contrast to his Vietnam opponent Nguyễn Văn Hải, a legendary fighter who is adept in multiple
fight forms, and has dedicated most of his life to martial arts.
Defry Palulu is likely the best performed Indonesian boxer since the legendary Chris John, and he has amassed 25 wins and a WBA Asia title in his superb career. The southpaw with the ominous ring name of "the Unseen Hammer" will tackle Philippines quicksilver Charly Suarez in the main undercard of the night.
Vietnam staged events such as Fortunes of War offer the fans a great opportunity to see the best fighting the best, but also give everyone a glimpse of the different styles and faces that international boxers bring, and VSP extends a warm welcome to the talented and hard working Indonesian team.
Thank you for your support Indonesia, you add much needed dimension and colour to our event, and we wish you truly great performances.

Pabustan will tackle the former Russian gang member Le Hoang Hiep, whilst the Journey Man Mark John Yap has an all action match up with Phan Minh Quân, an excellent local prospect that had won the Ho Chi Minh City youth title before the pandemic.
Pabustan and Yap will be accompanied by JonJon Estrada, Arnel Baconaje and Charly Suarez making this team the strongest Philippines representation to ever descend upon foreign shores.

THE BIGGEST FIGHT IN VIETNAM THIS YEAR !
This is the main event !
Vietnam champion Dinh Hong Quân goes toe to toe with the very lethal puncher from the Philippines - Arnel Baconaje.
Charly Suarez has been nothing short of outstanding since turning pro. But if there has been any doubts regarding his ascent to a world title, it's been that he perhaps lacks the killer instinct or power required at the highest level.
But rumors abound that the King’s Warrior never had any intention of hurting his countrymen, and that he was just happy to get valuable rounds in before heading abroad. And the word is, no such luxury will be afforded to any foreign opponents that stand in his way of a world title.
Believe it, or don't !
But if this line of thinking is correct, then one thing is sure, Indonesia’s best best boxer Defry Palulu is in deep trouble !
Here is Charly Suarez facing Domenico Valentino, not long after the Italian won the world amateur Lightweight title. You be the judge.
Philippines have a strong representation in Vietnam on December 10, and Jetro Pabustan will take on the feisty Le Hoang Hiep in what is destined to be a crazy action packed fight at the beachside resort of The Grand HoTram. The Vietnam boxer has a reputation as being unhinged, and in spite of jumping two weight classes, is confident that he can handle the much bigger pinoy boxer.
But for the well traveled Pabustan, he's seen and heard it all before !
Jetro Pabustan is one of the most experienced fighters appearing at the Fortunes of War in Ho Tram. The clever southpaw is known as the Silent Operator, and when you watch him at work, it’s no surprise that this technician has racked up 31 wins in his career so far. With a professional resume dating back to 2008, Pabustan suffered only one defeat in his first 29 bouts, an amazing feat considering he was fighting everyone!
The Silent Operator hails from Malapatan , Sarangani, but has fought for most of his career based in Cagayan de Oro. A talented southpaw from the start, his style has always been steeped in good fundamentals – touch jabs, deft counters, and point scoring against opponents that get a bit ragged. This template saw him get to a WBO world bantamweight title in 2016, one that he unfortunately lost to the legendary Thai Panya Uthok by technical decision. Ironically, this title was later avenged by another quality pinoy named Marlon Tapales. The very next year, Jetro Pabustan ventured to Japan to claim the WBO Asia Pacific title, accounting for the highly rated Tatsuya Takahashi. When it appeared that his career was in another upswing, the talented CDO fighter seemingly vanished from the landscape, fighting only three times in the next 3 years.
The Silent Operator resumed in May to beat the outstanding and dangerous Bryan Tamayo in Manila. He followed that effort with a last moment trip to the United States to take on the world top 20 fighter Tramaine Williams. Whilst being on the receiving end of a narrow loss, many that watched this fight were convinced that Pabustan had done enough to get his hand raised.

Hanoi boxer Nguyễn Văn Hải competed in his first match in almost 3 years this past August. In what was viewed as a welcome back contest in Manila for Hai, he came away with a points loss, and a bagful of "what if" scenarios on his performance. The end result was a steely resolve to make amends for that defeat as soon as possible.
Nguyễn Văn Hải is very likely the most experienced mixed fight form exponent in Vietnam, and he returns to his love for boxing on December 10 at the Fortunes of War show in Ho Tram.
Hai was a highly decorated amateur in younger days, having won multiple national titles and achieving medals at the SEA Games. In spite of those successes, the revered Hanoi legend has had precious few chances to box in recent years.
Hai was intent on embarking on a pro career back in 2019, and signed with VSP to pursue that ambition. The pandemic put the brakes on those plans, and unfortunately, Hai did not see any ring time until August of this year.
Nguyễn Văn Hải ventured to Manila to take on rangy southpaw prospect Jerald Into, and despite incurring a points loss, it was a decent display for a boxer with lots of ring rust. The Vietnam fighter certainly showed many of the trademark moves of his amateur days, but his distance, timing and punch volume were below the required level. But he actually looked very good, and it will no doubt be a vastly improved, and perhaps vengeful, boxer that returns to the ring at The Grand Ho Tram on December 10.
This boxer dubbed "the Hanoi Hitman" will look to reverse that loss in Manila, and he will be determined to teach his whiz kid Indonesian rival some veteran tricks of the trade !
The biggest belt matches are coming to The Grand Ho Tram this December !
Dinh Hong Quân defends his IBF Lightweight crown against the Philippines lethal Arnel Baconaje in what will go down as a fight for tge ages. This one is as close to a 50/50 as you will ever get !
Indonesia’s best Defry Palulu heads to Ho Tram to take on very likely the best technical boxer that the Philippines has ever produced - the quicksilver Charly Suarez. But in spite of his unbeaten record, there are doubters that suggest he doesn't have the power to make the same impact that Manny Pacquiao has made on the sport. Defry Palulu is a former WBC champ, and Suarez the WBA King, so both camps are justified in their confidence in securing the IBF 130lb belt.
And what about this one for a torrid clash ?
19 year old Chan-Ho Song from South Korea takes on 18 year old Anuson Thonglueang for the WBO Oriental Youth Super Lightweight title in an 8 round bout where both boxers aim to destroy the other. The Thai has had 10 bouts this year, and has literally decapitated his opposition.
And Chan-Ho Song, who is unbeaten in 8 fights, is certainly living up to his ring name of "Purge Boy" !
Three classic championship bouts, and four other hell fire contests, so who wants some ?
WHO'S COMING TO THE GRAND HO TRAM RESORT VIETNAM ON SATURDAY DECEMBER 10 ?
If you can't get there, don't panic, you can watch all the action here live !
Vietnam is a hotbed of boxing talent, and there are many picturesque locations in that special country to show case the best action matches to fight fans.
The Grand Ho Tram situated in the southern beach area of Vung Tau is simply iconic, and as the name suggests, they have some very GRAND plans.
This beautiful coastal resort plans to be "THE PLACE" for boxing in Asia - think of Vegas by the beach !
And yes again, they actually have an incredible Casino (and a Greg Norman designed golf course too !)
The Grand Ho Tram have already staged two events this year, and on December 10, are going all out with the biggest sports event in Vietnam this year.
The Fortunes of War event brings together many of Asia's best fighters for the very first time, and will host three title matches sanctioned by the IBF and WBO.
The event will also embrace the fun side of boxing, and will avail three novice Vietnam prospects the opportunity to share the ring with top foreign professionals. These exhibition bouts will be fast and furious and held over 4 rounds - if they go that long!
Congratulations
to our friends at The Grand Ho Tram for being such great supporters of boxing, and for hosting the most iconic sports event in Vietnam this year.

Vietnam's defending IBF Lightweight champion Dinh Hong Quân is already in great shape for his impending clash with Arnel Baconaje, and has plans to make it an early night.
"I had to lose a lot of weight way too fast for my last fight with Jules Victoriano, and I must admit he was a very tough opponent. I feel in way better shape this time, my camp has been good, and being able to train with a legend like Manny Pacquiao has helped me a lot.
A lot of people say it was a very close fight with Philippines last time, and it was, but most did not know that I had no sparring before that match. Everybody will see a far better Dinh Hong Quân this time, and I already know that I will hurt Arnel Baconaje.
It's a very good match, I am excited for it. I am very happy to have the challenge of stopping a top fighter like Baconaje in front of my home country. "

South Korea meets Thailand in what is sure to be a firefight in the super lightweight 140lb category.
Chan Ho Song is a star on the rise, and could very easily develop into the best pro that South Korea has produced in recent years. At only 19 years of age, he has already chalked up 8 straight wins, and tellingly, has improved out of sight every time that he has entered the ring. This boy is very different to the traditional dour, gritty Korean style that you are maybe familiar with.
Song is fast, has a high workrate, nice footwork, and really works some clever angles. He is definitely durable, and he is developing some power to go with his accurate hands. This is a certainly a boxer to watch for the future - he will be top level !
Anuson Thonglueang has already created some media attention in Thailand, where he has put together 12 wins with only one loss in extra quick time. Similar to his South Korean counterpart, he is a dynamic all action fighter, and he really knows how to be effective inside the ropes.
Whilst his opponents have been lesser calibre than Song, he has dispatched them convincingly, and with real menace ! Anuson Thonglueang as obliterated 9 of his 12 victims by knockout, so Chan Ho Song will need to be careful of engaging in a trading battle with this dangerous Thai.
Chan Ho Song and Anuson Thonglueang will lock horns for the WBO Oriental Youth title.

Nguyễn Văn Hải ventured to Manila to take on rangy southpaw prospect Jerald Into, and despite a points loss, it was a decent display for a boxer with lots of ring rust.
The boxer dubbed the Hanoi Hitman will look to build on that loss, and will be joined at The Grand Ho Tram by four other Vietnam fighters.
Dinh Hong Quân will contest the main event, while novice prospects Pham Minh Quân, Le Hoang Hiep and Thai Hoang Huy will take on top class Philippines boxers in the undercard bouts.
Indonesia’s Paisal Panjaitan creates an exquisite and intriguing match up with Vietnam's Nguyễn Văn Hải. At face value, their fight stats are remarkably similar, and both like to box out of the orthodox stance. But that's where the similarity ends.
Nguyễn Văn Hải has been immersed in "fighting" for more than 20 years, and has been a high level amateur. In contrast, Paisal Panjaitan has been boxing for less than 5 years, and is clearly still learning the trade. That said, it's transparent that he has improved markedly with each performance, and his energy levels will obviously prove a challenge to his Vietnam opponent. Panjaitan is tough too!
Unbeaten in 3 fights, he absorbed punishment yet won each contest convincingly.
This Vietnam v Indonesia match up will be over 4 rounds, so expect to see fireworks in this one, as both these talented fighters will be looking to impose their will.
Really looking forward to this one !

THE GRAND HO TRAM JUST GOT HOTTER !!!
Saturday December 10 Fortunes of War !
WBC champion Defry Palulu was meant to fight a novice professional named Charly Suarez back in March 2020.
The fight was canceled due to the pandemic !
Indonesia’s best fighter and his team were supremely confident of victory, and rightfully so.
Palulu was on a hot winning streak with a 21-2 record, which compared very favourably with the King's Warrior's 3-0 relative inexperience !
Fast forward to The Grand Ho Tram Vietnam on Saturday December 10, and now the clash of two of Asia's very best 130lb fighters, who were always destined to meet - has been set !
Defry Palulu has now recaptured his pre-pandemic form with four successive wins since resuming.
Charly Suarez has stayed busy at home, picking up wins against quality locals, and grabbing WBA and Philippines national titles in the process.
Palulu feels that Suarez doesnt have the power to make an impact at top level. It's an opinion that has even been echoed by many in the Philippines. The Indonesian is also of the belief that previous opponents have allowed the pinoy star to impose his "amateur" style way too easily. He contends that many have simply followed Suarez around the ring, thus falling victim to his mesmerizing hand and foot speed.
The Indonesian southpaw champion says all of that nonsense will finish on December 10 in Vietnam !
It seems hard to imagine anybody in world boxing outpointing Philippines' Charly Suarez, but can he be stopped ?
"That is our plan ! Team Palulu have worked very hard for this, and we will not let this opportunity slip.
Suarez does not have the power to hurt me, or even hold me off. But I know when I catch him, he will go down.
Indonesia will have a new IBF champion on December 10."

Dinh Hong Quan is gaining the reputation as one of Vietnam's most improved and fearless fighters.
On December 10, the man revered as the Black Hawk, will defend his IBF title on home soil against one of Asia's best at 126-130lb - Philippines' very own Arnel Baconaje.
This will the third defense for the Vietnam champion, and admirably, he has taken on quality opposition each time. The Black Hawk originally won the IBF belt on foreign soil against the very experienced Korean Dong Hee Kim, dispatching his opponent with a showreel left hook !
Since then he has defended against emerging pinoy boxers Delmar Pellio and Jules Victoriano, both of whom enjoyed physical batlles with the Vietnam boxer.
Arnel Baconaje represents another rise in class for Quân, and there is no doubt that at 130, the Philippines man known as "The Silencer" would start an overwhelming betting favourite. But this battle will be at 135lb, and will be held in Dinh Hong Quân's backyard.
It's Vietnam v Philippines its Black Hawk v The Silencer and its the IBF Asia title on the line !

Indonesia’s top fighter Defry Palulu is Vietnam bound, and intent on reclaiming his lofty place in the world rankings.
The accomplished southpaw was the WBC Asia champion back in 2019, and was looking to leverage that belt towards some bigger bouts.
He was actually slated to fight novice professional Charly Suarez back in March 2020, a match that he was confident of winning, and one where he undoubtedly would have started a betting favourite.
But the pandemic made a mess of best laid plans, and Palulu was stripped of his WBC belt due to his inability to defend that title. Boxing in Indonesia had completely shut down, and the champion was without a bout for almost 2 years !
Now the Unseen Hammer is back !
Defry Palulu has won 4 on the trot since resuming, taking his impressive tally to 25-2, and has run himself into a rich vein of form.
His most recent win against India #1 Asad Khan was equal parts flawed and impressive, yet it was enough to highlight that Palulu had recaptured his pre-pandemic form.
The Unseen Hammer has a deceptively effective style that has seen him incur only one solitary loss in 8 years - a disputed split decision at that !
He is a southpaw that changes direction and cuts the ring with ease, yet throws punches from unorthodox positions. He varies his power cleverly, and has great insticts when it comes to throwing the "money" shot. Palulu has the sort of thudding power with an often surprising delivery that has deservedly earned him that ring monicker of the "Unseen Hammer".
The Philippines' Charly Suarez has looked outstanding soaring unbeaten in 13 fights, but it is fair to say that Defry Palulu represents a significant test for his debut international bout. Suarez has certainly brought all his wonderful amateur attributes to the pro arena, yet there are many skeptics, and Palulu is one of those.
Despite his skills, many doubt that Charly Suarez has the power to worry the world top 10, and Palulu intends to exploit that deficit. He also believes that Suarez has been "followed" around the ring by previous frustrated opponents, and that he has the tools to cut the ring and corner the Philippines man.
Palulu is confident that the world title charge of Charly Suarez will end on December 10.
That claim remains to be seen, but what is certain, is that this December match in Vietnam will be an intriguing clash of styles and it's a rare treat to get to see two fighters of this calibre in the ring together !

Vietnam legend Nguyễn Văn Hải will take on hot unbeaten Indonesian boxer Paisal Panjaitan (3-0) at the beachside venue of The Grand Ho Tram next month.
Hai resumed from a very long break for a points loss to the promising Jerald Into, but is sure to be in devastating shape for this Vietnam bout.
Paisal Panjaitan has scored one knockout and two easy points victories in his three wins, and will be looking to make a statement in his first international bout.

It pays to dress for success, and big thanks go out to Raoul Navarrete and the team at Be Athletic for this inspirational fight gear for the huge Charly Suarez v Defry Palulu bout coming up next month in Vietnam.
Now we know that Palulu is touted as one of Indonesia's best fighters since Chris John, and we know he was a WBC champion, and we know he has a 25-2 record, and we know his only loss in 8 years was by controversial split decision, and we know he has even said that Suarez has no power and wont crack the world top ten ........
BUT !!!
Will he look as stylish as Team Suarez?
Ahhhhh that's impossible to imagine!
Watch out Palulu, the Suarez army is coming !

December is the month where all the best known boxers in Vietnam will head to Hanoi to compete in the national sports championships.
So how do you find Vietnam prospects that are willing to fight, when all the best known boxers have headed north for the festival?
VSP Promotions recently advertised that three of the Philippines top professional fighters will come to VSP Gym next month, and are also offering to participate in 4 round bouts at Ho Tram on December 10 against any Vietnam boxer brave enough to put their hand up!
So the call from VSP went out :
"We are looking for Vietnam Tigers who are willing to jump in with these professional killers from the Philippines - JonJon Estrada, Mark John Yap and Jetro Pabustan."
We had so many that wanted to test themselves, and despite their lack of experience, there were three brave Vietnam boys who's enthusiasm and appetite for adventure shone through.
Le Hoang Hiep was one of the most fearless, and he begged for the match with Jetro Pabustan. Despite being a 51kg Flyweight and devoid of recent fights, the 22 year old Gorilla was desperate for action, and said "I'll start training from today if you give me a shot at the Silent Operator!"
And so the match was made, "Young Blood" Le Hoang Hiep will have his date with destiny when he meets Jetro Pabustan at The Grand Ho Tram Vietnam on December 10.
Congratulations
young man, but a word of warning, be careful of what you wish for.
As they say SILENCE IS GOLDEN!
Arnel "the Silencer" Baconaje is Vietnam bound, and he has only one objective on his mind.
To defeat the man known as the "Black Hawk", Vietnam's Lightweight champion Dinh Hong Quan, and return to his native Philippines wearing his IBF belt.
Cocky Buffalo prospect Quan has successfully defended the IBF belt twice already, and whilst they have been hard fought bouts against quality pinoys, it is also fair to say that the young Vietnam boxer is still making technical improvements with each challenge.
He is also getting bigger and stronger.
But the Silencer has no interest in any of that !
As its equally fair to say that he is far more experienced boxer than the two previous opponents of Dinh Hong Quan, and is more definitely more skilful at landing meaningful punches. The Philippines boxer from Iloilo has landed 11 knockouts in his 15 wins.
This is a classic main event, where based on experience, the Philippines Arnel Banconaje is the man to beat and would start a solid favorite.
But you can't rule out the Black Hawk, as he just keeps improving and rising to each new challenge.
If you're a Vietnam fan and haven't seen Baconaje before, check out some of his bag work from late last week. Crisp and precise.
He will be looking to clip the wings of the Black Hawk on December 10.

When asked about the task of taking on an internationally performed boxer with 31 wins and a 4kg weight advantage, the Thug Life inspired character was unrestrained in his typically psycho style:
"Tell that boy I'm sending him home to his momma in a zipped bodybag!"

FORMER Olympian and current World Boxing Association Asia super featherweight king Charly Suarez takes on Indonesian Defry Palulu on Dec. 10, 2022, at The Grand Ho Tram Strip in Vung Tau City, Vietnam.
The 34-year-old Suarez has already become one of the best Pinoy fighters despite only being a pro for just four years. The former amateur standout is dominating the local boxing scene by beating fighters like Marjohn Yap, Tomjune Mangubat, Delmar Pellio and recently Carlo Magali.
Suarez has had an impressive year thus far, winning all his in dominant fashion. He started the year with a 12th-round technical knockout of Mangubat, followed by a one-sided unanimous decision beating of Junny Salogaol. He then outclassed crafty veteran Yap by unanimous decision and also defeated tough Magali also by a unanimous verdict.
Suarez is now finally ranked in the World Boxing Council at No. 37 in the super featherweight class.
The 31-year-old Palulu, in the meantime, is on an impressive run, winning 10 of his last 11 fights. He hasn’t been beaten in six years. The last time he tasted defeat was when he lost by split decision to Jason Butar Butar.
Palulu has fought the likes of former world title challenger AJ “Bazooka” Banal and Isack Junior. He’s coming off a unanimous decision over Asad Asif Khan last June 12.
Suarez is 13-0 with seven knockouts, while Palulu is 25-2-2 with 14 knockouts.
Also in the same card, Arnel Baconaje (15-5, 11 KOs) challenges hometown bet Dinh Hong Kwan (9-1-1, 4 KOs) for the latter’s International Boxing Federation Asia lightweight belt.
Quality match up at 130 between RoyRoy Sumugat and Ivor "the Killer" Lastrilla.
The Killer showed enterprise and even dominace early in this match, with Big Roy Sumugat keeping a cool head and probing for opportunities as the fight progressed.
D'Hammer was really composed and strong at the end of this one, and showed he has plenty more great performances to come. Lastrilla was impressive in parts of this contest to, he sets up some combinations on southpaw Sumugat that were really thoughtful.
This Sumugat v Lastrilla match up was really good to watch !
The Grand Ho Tram in Vietnam has grand plans !
Saturday December 10
Full fight card coming soon, but already signed :
Vietnam - Dinh Hong Quan
Philippines - Arnel Baconaje
Indonesia - Defry Palulu
Philippines - Charly Suarez
Uzbekistan - Olimjon Nazarov
Vietnam - Nguyễn Văn Hải
Indonesia - Paisal Panjaitan
and will soon include top fighters from South Korea and Thailand.
This end of year festive event at The Grand Ho Tram wil also give young Vietnam hopefuls Phan Minh Quân, Le Hiep and Thai Hoang Huy the chance to share the ring with Philippines idols Mark John Yap, Jetro Pabustan and the Wolverine JonJon Estrada.
Indonesian champion Defry Palulu (25-2) takes on the Philippines' champion Charly Suarez (13-0) at The Grand Ho Tram Strip in Vietnam on Saturday December 10th.
This is ONE versus ONE where the thudding style of the Indonesian southpaw will be looking to disrupt the plans of the livewire Suarez.
This is already shaping as a phenomenal card, where the main event sees the Vietnam lightweight champ Dinh Hong Quan (9-1) will defend his IBF Asia title against top class pinoy Arnel Baconaje (15-5) in what is as close to a 50/50 match as you will ever likely see !
Many great bouts at the BATTLEFIELD, and there were also some stand out performances by boxers that were on the wrong side of the judges scorecards. Eduardo Mancito resumed from a break, and looked in outstanding shape for his match with hot Lightweight prospect Jerald Into.
Mancito had some significant issues with the height and range of Into, and started to solve these to a degree late in the match. The Nightmare did some good work in this encounter, and will no doubt be vastly improved by meeting a shorter opponent and back in his usual weight class for his next assignment.
Charly Suarez and Carlo Magali go at it for WBA Asia and RP national title supremacy!
Suarez will return on December 10 in Vietnam to close out the year, taking on his first foreign challenger.
Indonesia’s best fighter and former WBC champion Defry Palulu has signed on to fight Charly Suarez in Vietnam next month.
Palulu was on a shortlist of a number of national champions to fight Suarez, but interestingly, was the only one to call the King's Warrior out.
The Indonesian champ bears the ring name "The Unseen Hammer", which bears testament to his deceptive southpaw style and thudding hands. Palulu was robbed of his WBC title when his country closed for the pandemic, and he was unable to defend his belt. He has since resumed with four straight wins, and boasts the excellent record of 25 and only 2 losses, the most recent being a contentious split decision many years ago.
The Unseen Hammer has also had success in the hurt department, having knocked out 15 of his opponents !
The match between Charly Suarez and Defry Palulu will take place at The Grand Ho Tram on December 10, and is Suarez's first foreign assignment in the pro ranks.
The Indonesian champion represents a mouth watering match up for his initial foray, as Palulu has been very dismissive of the amateur style and lack of firepower that he perceives from Suarez. He also recognizes the skills in the unbeaten pinoy, but believes that he will cut the ring on Suarez far better than previous opponents. Further, he has stated that Suarez does not punch hard enough to worry the top 10, and he will not only damage his world ambitions, he will do damage to the Philippines freak talent.
Contract signed, done deal, December 10 !

Congrats to Victory8 fighter Linn Sandström, who was successful in her WBA assault in York Hall London just moments ago. The Swedish boxer first appeared as a novice performer in Vietnam at Victory8 in 2018, where she challenged national champion Nguyễn Thi Tam at Nguyễn Du Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City.
Sandstrom has since forged a pro career and showed continued improvement, winning in Australia, the Philippines, Costa Rica and tonight's bout in England. Her WBA win over Croatian Sara Marjanovic was Linn Sandström's 7th in the paid ranks, and she's just getting started !
GO SANDSTORM!
Vietnam's Lightweight champion Dinh Hong Quan will face Philippines Arnel Baconaje at the Grand Ho Tram Strip for the IBF title on December 10. This will be as significant a main event as the country has ever seen, where incumbent champion Dinh Hong Quan (9-1) faces his sternest test to date against the skilful pinoy boxer.
The Vietnam rising star has the size advantage, yet Baconaje has bowled over some of the Philippines' biggest and best scoring, 11 knockouts in his 15 wins to date. This is a massive main event with both fighters having the genuine attributes to claim the IBF prize.
Dinh Hong Quan will join the Manny Pacquiao training camp in preparation for his December assignment, whilst Baconaje is currently in Japan working with pound for pound star Naoya Inoue. The match between Dinh Hong Quan and Arnel Baconaje will take place at The Grand Ho Tram Strip in Vietnam on Saturday December 10th.
Fight card and ticket information coming soon!
Have to love the ring name! Defry Palulu is Indonesia’s best fighter and is IBF approved.
He has a 25 win and 2 loss record and was a WBC regional champion before the pandemic robbed him of that title. So he's not happy!
Congratulations to the Philippines fighters that will be competing at the Grand Ho Tram in Vietnam on Saturday December 10. Arnel Baconaje and Charly will contest IBF titles in two of the main event matches.
Baconaje will take on incumbent lightweight champion Dinh Hong Quan, a Vietnam fighter that has recent history with pinoys Delmar Pellio and Jules Victoriano. Charly Suarez is expected to have a confirmed opponent soon.
Indonesia’s best fighter has given his take on the recent deeds of Charly Suarez, and also his prospects of matching up with the King's Warrior in the near future: "I am aware that I am on a shortlist of fighters for the IBF title in December with Suarez, but if he is serious about being world champ, then pick me - as I am his ticket !
From what I hear, nobody wants any part of Suarez - the Aussie, the Japan, and even I'm hearing American! And from what I see, I am the ONLY guy to call this amateur out, to expose him in the pro ranks.
But I will make a prediction, that based on what I have seen recently of Charly Suarez, not only will I damage his hopes of a world title, I will do some serious damage to his body also. The guy has zero power, so I don't see how he will compete with a top ten fighter "
Defry Palulu is a former WBC belt holder with a record of 25 and 2. He has encountered only one loss in the last 9 years, a controversial split decision defeat that he later avenged. Charly Suarez will contest the IBF Asia title at The Grand Ho Tram Strip in Vietnam on Saturday December 10th.
Big thrill to see "the Ferocious" Carlo Magali back in the ring at Sunday’s BATTLEFIELD. Carlo is one of the most rugged fighters in Philippines boxing, and he turned out in career best shape for his stoush with Charly Suarez in the main event.
Magali started very strongly and in fact edged Suarez in round 3, but it became obvious that the King's Warrior was not going to risk trading with the battle hardened warrior. The match up turned out to be stylistically wrong for Magali, but he certainly showed the physical menace that would really hurt a less lateral opponent than Suarez. We really look forward to The Ferocious appearing again soon, and watching him bust up whatever is in front of him!
*story courtesy Daily Tribune
Utilizing his all-around skills, Rio Olympics veteran Charly Suarez kept his unbeaten record intact with a lopsided 12-round unanimous decision win over rugged Carlo Magali over the weekend in Sucat, Parañaque. Suarez was defending the World Boxing Association super-featherweight title and likewise vying for the Philippine crown and easily got the job done by earning scores of 119-109 (twice) and 118-110 on the judges’ scorecards.
The crowd at the Flash Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Center rallied behind Magali but Suarez had no trouble keeping his foe at bay with shots fired from long range. The victory raised Suarez’s record to 13-0 with seven knockouts and the Magali conquest put him on line for a quick return to the ring on 10 December in Vietnam.
“We are fast-tracking his climb to the world ratings,” Suarez’s chief trainer and longtime national team pal Delfin Boholst. Charly’s ripe (for a title shot) because of his age and his wealth of experience (fighting in the amateur ranks),” Boholst added. Though already 34, Suarez has fought extensively and once faced Vasyl Lomachenko, now regarded as one of the world’s finest fighters.
Hot on the heels of Charly Suarez's clinical WBA and National title win yesterday, the champion's focus now moves to his next assignment. The King's Warrior has been approached to fight in Vietnam in December, and the Philippines' most "ducked" fighter is looking to take his first international scalp on foreign soil.
It seems at this stage, the US, Australia and Japan have stamped Suarez papers as "too dangerous", and given his amateur and pro record, this is hardly surprising! So the search is on for top quality guns that are ready to be lit up by Suarez.
One name that interestingly resurfaced recently was that of a fighter who apparently still holds an opinion on the Philippines star. Charly Suarez was recently made subject of a “call out” by Indonesia’s #1 fighter Defry Palulu, a hard hitter with a 25 and 2 record.
Palulu is classed as one of his country’s best since the mighty Chris John, and the heavy handed southpaw was meant to defend his WBC regional belt against Suarez back in 2020, a match that was cancelled due to the pandemic. At the time Palulu was confident of dismantling the fledgling pro Suarez, and to this day, he still remains optimistic about the task:
Charly Suarez has done very well in his career so far, but I feel I am now a stronger fighter than i was back in 2020, and I just know he hasn’t yet fought someone of my ability. I am hearing that he is the best in Asia at 130, some say even in the world, but I know that I have the power to hurt him and slow his fast hands. "I have been in with many "amateur style" boxers before, and it always ends the same way for them!” warned the man aptly tagged “the Unseen Hammer” !!
Defry Palulu is unbeaten in three fights since returning from the pandemic, and has experienced only one loss in the last 9 years - a split decision loss that he later avenged. VSP Promotions will look into this guy - if the quotes are real, and he's ready to walk the walk, this could be interesting!
Champion Philippines boxer Mark John Yap and Team Raka trainer Ephraim Montoru meet after the historic bout between PNG and Philippines.
What was the topic they discussed? " Mark, which one in your opinion is better?
The San Miguel or riding the Red Horse? "was Ephraim's opener !
Papua New Guinea's very popular Junior Kauko Raka enjoys a meal with other competing boxers after yesterday's huge BATTLEFIELD card in Parañaque Manila.
Raka put on a stoic display in a cracking undercard fight with Philippines champion Mark John Yap.
Junior Raka pressured Yap throughout, winning the admiration of the crowd.
This was the first match for the PNG PRODIGY in almost two years, so expect to see a vastly improved fighter in future bouts.
And our advice is that anyone that is thinking of facing Raka ,?
WATCH OUT ! You are in for one hell of a fight!
PNG PRODIGY IS ON THE MARCH !
Despite a slow start, RoyRoy Sumugat wore down a very good looking Ivor Lastrilla.
Lastrilla appeared to outbox Sumugat in the opening sequence, and he looked to be in career best form. He definitely created problems for RoyRoy, and there are wins in store for this smart boxer without doubt. But it was Sumugat to the fore in latter rounds, with his accuracy and nice combination punching earning him the stoppage.
After the gunshots have fallen silent, and the smoke has cleared !
Huge performances tonight from Mark John Yap and Junior Kauko Raka.
Yap showed all his boxing skills and put an exclamation mark on why he has been a multiple title holder. This "Journeyman" has a lot left in the tank, and he looks invigorated at 130lb.
Raka was a junkyard dog, constantly pressing the champion Yap onto the back foot. Junior Raka showed understandable signs of ring rust, but it was a wholehearted display that won the plaudits of Philippines fans, and was sure to make PNG proud.
Make no mistake, Raka will derive huge benefit from tonight's performance and he will be a menace to top fighters in the division.
Top quality bout. Bravo !
